The alternative is virtual machines, one of my virtual machines is running snow leopard server since it has rosetta it should run the PPC binaries that the g series macs can run. With intel based processors the instruction set has increased over the processor generations but only expanded not replaced so the virtual hardware looks and is compatible with what an old program expects.

It saves me hoarding as many computers (i still have way too many).

I use Parallels Desktop to run WinXP and Win7 and Win 10 on occasion. I have a drive I can plug into my Mini to run 10.6.8 so I can use FileMaker Pro 11 Advanced.

Thats an advantage a Mac and Linux has the ability to just plug in an external drive and use it. Pc's can use other internal drives too but Windows kind of got stuck when part way through booting a USB drive and would reset the USB bus and lose the operating system. Most of the problem is licensing , Microsoft wanting to ensure you are running a version of Windows on just one machine. OSX pretty much just want's to see its running on a Mac and Linux doesn't care if its a Mac or a PC as long as there are drivers it's grand.

Did you read all the replies, especially the conclusions on page 3 about Picassa being unsupported software that is no longer being updated for new camera releases?
