At that distance, your 800mm equivalent lens would cover an area approx 8ft. wide (no cropping). How large are these ducks? Great image, so sharp and colorful!

They are about 12 inches in length. This photo is slightly cropped. Last week I had my laser rangefinder out to measure a distance to some Wood Ducks
that were in a similar distance, but since I moved around, on this bridge, I could only get an approximate measurement.

Thank you very much, Julian.

In spite of the distance, your exposure is great. These ducks are really difficult for me to get a good exposure. The dynamic range of their colors is so great plus their feathers are so reflective that I usually blow out the whites while underexposing the green and purples. Nice job on 2 beautiful birds.

You are absolutely correct about getting a good, sharp contrasted shot of these beautiful birds. The partially cloudy skies might have given me
a better contrasted photo than before or the angle of the shot was better. I would love to get a closer photo of these Wood Ducks. A very difficult bird to photograph well.

Thank you very much, bajadreamer.

Regis, with you it is never Luck. Great images.
Don

Thank you very much, Don. When a dark cloud overhead suddenly disappears and let's in the sunshine, that is a little bit of luck.
However, my focusing, shutter speed, aperture and spot meter reading have to be on the money especially when photographing BIF.

Thank you. I estimated there were some cropping, otherwise the ducks would have been much larger. Still, great shooting.... so sharp!

Today, these Wood Ducks came out better than another pair I shot a month ago at
the same distance. I don't know why. Luck? Lighting?

Hand held @ 800mm.

Beauties Regis!
