Corky this is an excellent set! We have had an on going discussion about the value of UHH taking us to regions and birds we may never have an opportunity to see. This beauty would be a rare winter visitor out here and I have never seen one. Thanks for these beautiful examples. Fine work my friend.
Phil

Thanks Phil, and I suppose that it's the same little male that I'm still hearing each day just singing away, trying to attract a partner! I have a" Wild Birds Unlimited" monthly calendar hanging on the wall within a few inches, of my keyboard and the bird pictured for the month of June is the Prothonotary Warbler so will pass on the description... "Eats insects.... Range: Eastern United States....Facts: The only cavity nesting warbler found in the Eastern U.S., the Phothonotary Warbler prefer to nest in tree cavities or nest boxes that are surrounded by slow-moving or standing water. It's unique name is derived from Prothonotaries, a college of Roman Catholic papal officials who wear yellow vestments." I installed a new nest box along with a raccoon proof baffle hoping that they would select it , but so far no takers! Always great to hear from you and take care!

Thanks for the info Corky. I went to my field guides for this one but your calendar does a nice job. Your photos are so nice and I have a recording of his song...beautiful. I hope he finds a mate, but in the mean time enjoy his daily serenades!

We always look forward to these beautiful little birds returning in the spring, at the beginning of the nesting season. The male is almost always singing and as we work with the flowers in the back yard the sound seems to be very close and it's almost like he is following you! So you peer into the trees, but sometimes it takes quite a while to locate him as he jumps from branch to branch on the leaf- covered limbs. I am including four images, the first two taken on a very old bald cypress tree and the last two on the remains of a gum tree stump which is directly beside the cypress tree.

Thanks, Phil and they really seem to prefer nesting around swamps and water. Take care, and keep the excellent sets coming!
