We always look forward to these beautiful little birds returning in the spring, at the beginning of the nesting season. The male is almost always singing and as we work with the flowers in the back yard the sound seems to be very close and it's almost like he is following you! So you peer into the trees, but sometimes it takes quite a while to locate him as he jumps from branch to branch on the leaf- covered limbs. I am including four images, the first two taken on a very old bald cypress tree and the last two on the remains of a gum tree stump which is directly beside the cypress tree.
Corky, these are terrific shots! You caught four distinctly different poses. Each shot is sharp and clear. Not only all that, but this is a really beautiful bird. I just looked in my field guide and it looks like we are on the very southern edge of their range. I have never seen one but it gives me something to hope for.
