Sounds great. I've been measuring spaces to see if I can get this printer. So far I haven't found anywhere it will fit. I might have to settle for the TS9020. I have until the end of the month to come up with something, since the rebate ends then.

Here's a video that will show you what you're getting in to.

I watched this entire video and now I think that this printer would be a bit too confusing for me. Thank you so much for posting this.

You might find that your other alternatives are no simpler to set up than the Pro-100. I'm looking at the video now, and this is not the standard approach to using the printer, he's talking about refilling cartridges with third party ink, not using the standard printer setup, and adapting it to other environments.

I personally do NOT find this credible as a typical installation experience. From my personal experience the Canon set up instructions cover things pretty well and clearly.

It does not have to be as complicated as this guy is making it sound. He clearly hasn't read the instructions and is introducing a lot of confusion and complexity.

Don't buy a used car from this guy.

That's a relief to know. I am going to rest my mind on this decision for a few days, then look at my options again. My brain is tired.

Good plan! Brains do get tired with information overload, especially on unfamiliar topics. Do you have a friend/acquaintance or someone that would be able to help you get things set up?

I'm tech support for my mother-in-law, even though she is fiercely independent and always wants to learn how to do things for herself, I always work on training her to be self sufficient in such things. When she calls, it's usually a good question and she mostly only calls once or twice. Given your research methodology I get the impression you will be able to cope.

The only issue that I see is the size of the beast and a place to put it.

Good luck

You are right, the size is definitely my biggest obstacle. My apartment is just not large enough.

I have a son-in-law who is my "go to" for technical support, but they live a two hour drive away from me.

As it looks right now I might end up settling for the pixma TS9020. I just don't know. But I will eventually figure it out. Thanks for your help and encouragement.

I'm lucky, my mother-in-law is only 20 mins away, but we also do phone support, and I can talk her through issues when needed. Seldom do we need to do face to face for simple issues. We all use the same computing systems and software by design (Windows 10, PaintShopPro etc.) so we can do the screen by screen click by click stuff.

On the other hand there are some things that need to be on premises. Fixing a gas leak on her 1950's era gas range was definitely an on premises thing, took a while (several visits, including restoring and resealing some pilot light valves), but we got it done and then tested by the gas company. Now she's cooking with gas again, and safely!

If you decide on a printer and get one, how about inviting them over for dinner (or whatever) with the request that he helps you set up the printer first? Shouldn't take more than an hour or two.

Good luck

The video is very credible, Jose Rodrigues has made more than eighty video that pertain to the Pro 100. Maybe the OP would like to see some more. Here's the list. Knowledge always helps.

He may have observations that pertain to many strange situations, but as a technology professional over many decades for global companies I stick by my assessment.

He clearly has potentially put off the OP, and I agree with her. I would not hire this guy to do an assessment or training video, and that has been part of my job for a long time. My professional opinion is that the video you cited is severely flawed. There are lots of incompetent people that post videos on You Tube. It doesn't have any entry qualifications and they get money per view, regardless of quality or accuracy.

Now clearly this guy has some competency, but the video is aimed at a specialist audience and not a general consumer. If that is the case, perhaps the video is OK, but you may be posting it in the wrong context for this discussion.

What are your professional qualifications for recommending this video and its credibility?

Unless the Pro 100 is very different from the 9000, setup, like most printers is really trivial. You load the ap/driver, plug in the USB cable, and other that setting up an ICC profile for the paper you're using and picking printing preferences, that's it. It's a peripheral, not an OS.

I have Epson Artisan 725. It cost me about $225. or $250 about 5-6 years ago and has been a good photo printer. My biggest concern is that i can only put in one sheet of paper at a time. If more than one, it will print a little of the pix on every sheet. I don't know what is expensive for ink, a full refill (6colors) from Epson is about $110.

Unless you need an all-in-one, I recommend researching the photo-dedicated printers. Don't "settle" for something less than what you would like to have.

I have a space problem, too, although probably not as great as yours. If you have space anywhere in your apartment, remember this printer can be used wirelessly. I know it is nicer to have it next to where you do your editing, but in a small apartment I suspect wireless will help a lot. My printer is on top of a cabinet that contains the television. Requires reaching to put in photo paper [rear paper feed], but it was the best choice for me.

Granted, it is a rather large printer at 27.2" wide [my current printer is around 20"]. And even though it is listed as 15.2" deep, it also needs space for the rear paper feed tray [looking at the photos on B&H, it is not as space-consuming as the one on my printer].

Good hunting!

Susan

Exactly. The only other thing is setting up the wireless connection if needed and generally the software does that with simple set up instructions. Any wireless printer would need the same...

A good set of observations. Although it has a rear paper feed tray, that is not needed most of the time in my experience, so 19 to 20 inches of wall clearance is good enough. So long as the width can be accommodated it seems similar to other printers and it folds up quite nicely when not in use.

With my printer, the rear paper tray is necessary to use it for photo paper. The front feed would produce paper jams with heavy paper! I suspect that is also the use of the rear tray on the Pro 100. But between my printer and the wall is around 5" which isn't much additional space to need. As you say, the width is the biggest problem.
