It appears that if shots are taken at high shutter speeds (1/8000 sec) and/or at ten frames a second at high shutter speeds the Nikon D500 and Nikon D750 shutters may shut down and an ERR message will appear. Not a lot of incidents have been reported on this subject nor has Nikon issued a service advisory on either camera. When I sent my Nikon D500 in the the second time Nikon agreed to replace it, got word from Nikon repair in NY last week that they had ordered in many new Nikon D500's. Got an email yesterday that they had mailed my new Nikon D500 to me. I believe that this issue effects few Nikon D500 and D750's. Again, if you are experiencing any issues related to this get hold of Nikon at Nikonusa.com. Thanks again Nikon.

Thanks. So far, my D750s have exhibited that problem.

Seems to me that if one wants to shoot video, or the equivalent, get a video camera.

I do not believe that shooting at 10 fps is video. I believe video starts at a higher fps rate. Besides, I shoot birds in flight and most photographers that shoot birds in flight want to shoot as many frames a second as possible because you stand a much better chance of getting just that RIGHT shot. Besides, I am getting 24 mgs. on each of those 10 shots, in video I would not be coming close to that and would effect your enlargements.

No problems here with my D750 or D500 mechanically. I sometimes have operator error.

D750 won't shoot 1/8000, max is 1/4000

Correct, Shutter bug magazine has reported that D750 owners have experienced an ERR message shooting at fast shutter speeds.

This might not be related, but I did have a recall notice on my D750 for shutter issues. It was repaired in January 2017 in a timely manner and at no charge.

What Nikon shoots 10 fps and has a 24 mp sensor?

I have an FX and DX that shoot 10 fps. They are 16 and 20 mp respectively.

There is a recent firmware update out on the D750, D500, D7200, as well as a couple of other Nikons. The firmware update may possibly fix the problem. Can't find the link right now, but just go to the Nikon site.

My D500 shuts down periodically. I found that the release button will only work if in focus. I changed to release full time with no problems since.

From my experience I believe the high shutter speed must be greater than 1/2000th, as I regulary shoot birds in flight at 1/2000th and 10fps. But thank you for the warning.

You are correct, that would be a 20 mp sensor on the D500. Point is, 24 mp each at 10 frames a second is still better quality than today's video can deliver, which was the post I responding to as the poster said why not just shoot video. Many thanks.

This problem was reported with some early D500's
I think this fix was a from Nikon, that the error could be cleared by taking the battery out then turning the camera on to discharge the electronics. Of course, the camera should go back to Nikon to correct the cause.
