Google Photos is far superior to Picasa.
I went to look at Google Photos. It appears you have to upload your pics to somewhere and then edit them - that it's a storage/organizational device with some editing available. If I don't want to upload the images (doing about 2000 at a time might be a chore), can I use the editing software built in? I didn't see a "download" tab.
Thanks. I saved the link.

I used Picasa for years but since it was discontinued I can't seem to get a version compatible w/ Windows 10.
Which of the available programs is closest to Picasa?
Welcome to the Hog, Pokaholic.

I've been using Picasa 3 with Windows 10 since "10" came out with no issues. It's transition from "7" to "10" has been seamless. Try again!

Why free? Given what one gets in Adobe Creative Cloud for $10/month, why would you want to avoid these proven tools?

When they discontinued Picasa I was surprised! Then, paying closer attention, I realized that they had created Google Photos (photos.google.com) to replace it. They had moved all my photos over to the new site, ready to use. I don't find it the most user friendly site ever used, but it gets the job done.

Is that the same as $120 each year every year? (or 10 years = $1200 dollars)? Is that corporate profiteering?

You really must look at PhotoFiltre - free versions and inexpensive paid versions - with layers and masks etc. VERY professional VERY intuitive.
Agree. Costs nothing and has almost everything you could want. I use it to batch process my large Nikon D810 files to something smaller I can send by e-mail to friends.

Considering all the mobile apps, the included web gallery, Adobe Bridge, ability to share collections to mobile devices and clients, the connectivity between PS and LR, the constant improvement, the huge professional user community from whom we can learn, I'd conclude that I spend more per month on many things of much less worth.
I don't care how much businesses profit if they are providing me an invaluable service. I know of no more capable package.
Picasa works fine on my Windows 10. No problems.
