Although DX lenses may be cheaper and lighter, their downside is that they are not useful for any currently, or previously, made format, other than the one they are made for. On the other hand, you CAN use FX lenses on both FX and DX so, when planning a potential move from DX to FX it may pay to purchase some FX lenses for your DX system. There are no current, or previous, film formats that can use DX lenses. The least expensive way to ease into this is to purchase used or refurbished. Best of luck.
