Whoopee doo, they can build two or three subs and maybe one or two carriers. How is that supposed to compete with the numerous submarines and carriers of the U.S. fleet?

Just thought it might be of general interest to go along with the original topic.

The U.S. has about 12-13 Active Aircraft Carriers. The US has advanced submarines with nuclear weapons too. The Cold War is not a real war, but a threat of one. One mistake can be catastrophic. Remember the Cuban Crisis, October 1962. Diplomacy prevented an all out naval war with the USSR. And a possible nuclear war.

I think the major world powers understand the policy of MAD. Given that, the real question is how does any nation extricate itself from its Military Industrial complex without destroying its economy? It would take a very bold and courageous world leader to take a leap of faith and at least take baby steps to transition that workforce to humanitarian endeavors. Maybe a little optimistic ? Where has continued military buildup gotten anybody, and where is it going to lead...

Awesome...that's great for the economy.

Let's get back to being a strong nation able to defend ourselves.

By the way, for those interested, the campaign SOAP OPERA, is over, now for the second season which is ongoing with the same political hacks and talking heads.

Amen. I see too much of this blasting at me from all angles.

Your opening sentence holds true to a point. As of 20Jan, it may no longer be applicable. On that date, moving into our White House is a damn fool who asked three times in an hour, "If we have nuclear weapons, why can't we use them?"

Less than 2% of the US population volunteer for military service, the equipment is state-of-the-art. Congress has withheld funding and the country has been at war since 2003

Meanwhile back in the USA our military has been decimated by the current administration. We're spending upwards of $4B per submarine, $85B for new fighters and that's just 2 programs. We're going broke on Defense spending - and it's not time for another Red October. Blame the "administration", but remember Congress provides the money and that drives the spending.

Time for another hunt for "Red October".

And that damm fool has NO idea what the consequences of a nuclear weapon. Nuclear weapons are designed to wipe out innocent children and civilians, not just the military.

Thank President Clinton for allowing our very top secret "quiet propeller" technology, winding up in China's possession... another Clinton service to America!

Trump and Putin is much less dangerous than obama and Putin.
obama is crapping on everyone in his path on his way out.

obama has to be one of the worst presidents in the history of the world. He does have record for creating the most debt with his vacations on the taxpayer dime. I'm surprised he hasn't collapsed us yet !

I was told by a friend who was an executive at GD Electric Boat, that by the year 2019, China will have more, newer and superior submarines than we have... as one of the Crown Jewels in our Navy, anyone else worried???
US 75. China 70. Russia 65 and China is building. We are pitting our 2 builders against each other for our next boat... likely only 1 builder will survive!

Feel safer now?
