Both brands are excellent, I personally like Canon, I have owned a Canon 20D, 50D, 6D full frame and and now a 50 MP 5D sr Full Frame. Never a problem with any of them. My son is still using the 20D after all these years.

I use Canon, but if I were starting over I would go with Nikon. I have too much money invested to switch. There are a couple of features Nikon has such as firing a remote flash that I wish I had. Nikon seems to be one step ahead of the game. You would probably be happy with either brand.

He repaired the EEE error in two of my T90's (oxidized shutter magnets - common problem - needed cleaning.) He also installed an external flash Sync in all four of my T90's. At the time, he was about $135 for the CLA (fixes the EEE error) and installs the external sync. I'll ask him about your memory card slot for the T90 next time I talk with him.

Now I know why you got your skivvies in a twist the other day when I unloaded on Canon. Just a brain fart on my part, did not know what your problem was. I had about $8000 in Canon FD gear when Canon f--ked us all with the EOS mount (which we should have seen coming with the T90.)

Hi Kuzano, Yes, the T90s did have that problem with the shutter magnets! I have two that are still working just fine, and one for parts...

I didn't have the same issues as you did with Canon changing to EOS. Being honest - and also a tech guy - I like to give any new tech time to get the wrinkles out of the system. I was happy with manual focus so felt no need to go auto focus initially, so I was good for about 15 years. Then when digital was on the horizon, my house got burgled - around 2002 - and my cameras were stolen, so I gave it a few years. With digital the quality wasn't there in my opinion, except for the P&S level until around 2010 at a reasonable price. Then I decided to reinvest.

It's sort of funny. My re-entry to the more serious camera world - which my wife paid for, I married well, not money but personality - cost around $750. I'm well over ten times that now and looking towards the next things...

Anyhow, thanks for the message. It is a complex world that we live in, and there are many ways of making it a better place.

Take care, and Tank you. Oops, I meant 'thank you', but you probably get my drift!

Both are great cameras, I am partial to Nikon. You'll do fine to start with the 18-55 kit lens, and the 70-300 has got a nice long reach in DX.

Not to confuse the issue, but restarting in Digital, you should really consider a mirrorless option like Sony or Fuji.

Second that emotion. Mirrorless is the future. You will find A6000 two lens bundles for under $800 at the moment.

OKAY should I get the Canon EOS rebel T6 or the Nikon D3400 , both offer package deals with 18mm-55mm and 70mm to 300mm lens .. I have seen them priced fairly close in price Canon $50 to $120 dollars less than the Nikon .. would like to hear from users of both .. not the opinion of dealer , trying to sale me his choice .. thanks I have a brand new in the box PENTAX 67 paid $1325.00 late 1990s only 1 test roll shot with camera , as it was backup camera , then a month later , we stopped using film cameras .Any one interested ????

I have used every other T series Canon products. I was going to purchase either the T6 or T7 series BUT I opted for the Canon 80 D instead. If you can go for the extra bucks, Do So. Great camera that is dust and water resistant. Very fast shutter speed and many excellent other features. Hope this helps. Remember when looking at lens packages make sure to get lenses with Image Stabilization. The STM series of lenses are fantastic. Very fast focus and very quiet. Hope this helps.

Nikon eliminated the ultrasonic sensor cleaning function in the D3400. Its built-in flash only has half the power of the flash in the D3300. They might be trying to cut costs. I would look at the D3300 or go to a D5xxx or D7xxx series Nikon.

If you get a D3400 you may want to get a good filtered blower since it doesn't have the sensor cleaning function. I got a KOH Hepa Jet II blower. It has a large hepa filter that filters out 99.97% of dust particles.

I started working for a company using Nikon cameras in the the late 70's. When I went on my own I got all Canon stuff because of good deals been offered. I did a expedition to Antartica and when I came back I sold all my Canon equipment and bought all new Nikons. At that time I had two Canon F1's and other. I just liked to have Nikons. It was like a car, you are a Mercedes or a BMW lover for instants.
Both camera manufacturers are doing a excellent job. Lens quality Nikon performs better than Canon, BUT most people would not even see the difference.....and Nikon is more expensive. Better quality are always at a expense.
This is what I found.... Canon videos are slightly better than Nikon but Nikon has a far better dynamic range and perform better under low light.
Conclusion, entry level cameras are basically the same so go to a camera store and try them out. You have been in the industry and will surely have a liking for one above the other. One of my teachers years ago said this in class, "If you have to make a choice between two things, take always the one you first thought of." Whether it is right, I do not know but at least that was the thing that activate your thought pattern.
You will make the right choice
Happy day

The Canon T6 will work with every Canon EF lens ever made and the AF as well as all the inherent functions built into the lens functioning perfectly. There are no restrictions on the lenses.
The Nikon D3400 is limited as to what Nikon AF lenses will function on it. Yes you can mount most Nikon lenses onto the body but most older Nikon lenses will not meter. Even the New AF lenses are limited as many will not AF etc on your camera so you have to be careful on purchasing lenses to ensure they are compatible with your camera.
So that is the biggest choice in considering is lens compatibility especially if there is a deal on a good used lens but it might be totally non-functional on the Nikon where with the EF lens for Canon you are looking at will have no problem being fully functional no matter how old it is.

Sony a6000 with Nikon and Canon adapters will hold you over while you make your decision. The camera is anything you need it to be. At current price it can't be beat.

I shoot Nikon so I guess I'm bias, If you happen to look at mirrorless, Panasonic Lumix DCM G series or FujiFilm X-T1's or newer X-T2's... toyed with um and they are quite remarkable, and a bit pricey but worth a look...

let me see , when I worked as a medical photographer at V A hospital , we used NIKONS and HASSIES , both tended to require regular repairs .. at the PRESDIO of SAN FRANCISCO , the US ARMY .. went Canon F1s only ... and PENTAX 67s , they got abused , and kept on shooting .. the only CANON F1 I had to repair of my assigned cameras , 12 years hard daily use , I was shooting CHINESE NEW YEARS PARADE , 4 straight hours of pounding rain and wind , shutter button died from drowning , and flash syn went with it ... I think Canon sold a real workhorse camera , NIKON and HASSABLAD .. SOLD very expensive equipment to those rich enough or brand whores , who had to have the NAME thanks for your views ..I still think my first cameras were the best for my needs during the 70s and 80s KONICAs .. 1st to use Auto exposure , choice of speed or aperture preferred , then first to have built in motor drive and rewind , in fact they were the first real JAPANESE camera makers .. almost 100 years ago... then to capture bigger market , dropped the professional market and went after the bigger market , everybody in the world , that wanted a great camera that was able to give minilabs well exposed film to print .
