Hi!

I too recently went through the same question between the two cameras. In my opinion, and mostly all the reviews I read before making my decision, go with the Nikon D3400....Hands down. It has more MP's, a bigger sensor, and superior kit lenses to the Cannon T6. I now own the Nikon D3400 and find it absolutely lovely. They have taken away some of the controls and knobs of the more expensive Nikons, however, it shares a lot of the qualities of their more expensive cameras. I have always been a Cannon person, but curious about Nikons. I have a good friend who has the T6 and I was able to shoot with it and really get the feel for it before I made my decision. The D3400 is a superior camera to the T6. I have read in a few replies to your question that cannon lenses focus faster, especially for sports shots. Could be the case for some other cameras and lenses. However, with the D3400, Nikon came up with some brand new technology with their lenses. The lenses that come with the D3400 kit have a new step motor which is lightning fast in terms of focusing and extremely quiet. This is compared to any camera I have tried, including older Nikon lenses that I have tried on my D3400. The other thing that I love about the new lenses is that the manual/auto setting is not on the lens. At any given moment when you are shooting, you can manually control the focus by just grabbing the focus ring - which is also not on the end of the lens that goes in and out, which is very nice. It took a day or two to get used to the Nikon's manual settings, but you can shoot in full manual mode. They claim this is an entry level camera, but like I stated, it shares a lot of the same excellent qualities of the more expensive Nikons. You can check out some of my photos on my page if you would like. All were shot with my D3400, with the exception of the surfing shots. https://www.flickr.com/photos/uniquefunktography/albums/

I hope this helps. This isn't claiming anything in regards to Cannon vs. Nikon in general, just between the Cannon T6 and the Nikon D3400

I haven't been on the Presidio since about 2001.. the big draw back .. most of my work ,was credited as official US ARMY photographer.. or just US ARMY staff photographer .. the last time I visited , I toured the newly opened visitor's center , what , I saw pissed me off so bad , I never went back to see if my photo on the wall covering the official post closure.. had been corrected .. it was wrongfully posted as being shot by someone else...I caused such a stink ..I called in the museum director , that , I had worked with for 13 years .. it was plain as day , credit was giving to some wanta be ..as I was only person allowed to be in the general's face during retiring of the US Army colors .. I was told it would be corrected , I have not been back to see . What part of the city do you live ? I was lucky enough to have lived on GEARY BLVD AND 34TH AVE for 19 years .. 11 months .. had a top floor 1200 sq ft flat looking over the park , towards Pacifica , .. I moved in MAY 1978 .. rent $300 a month .. when I left April 1998 I was paying $500 ... ... building was gutted 1 hour after I moved out .My neighbors were paying $2800 a month , no garage , I had the whole 3 car garage to myself.. I was given 6 months free rent and $5000 for leaving ..try finding a place , to rent during the DOT.COM take over of the city then , on top of , I was unemployed , my landlord had died 5 years before that ,it was fun trying to find place to rent , every place had 20 25 applicants , I had to beg someone to rent to me .. 1st question , who do you work for ? I am unemployed .. Oakland army based on just closed , next question , can we contact your landlord .. not really .. he died 5 years ago , and his wife 8 years ago . I ENDED UP in Emeryville .. sort of bribed a property manager .. " if , I give you 6 months advanced rent , can I move in ? ok , but , you still have to pay for a credit report ..... ha ha .. lets hook up anytime you want text me 510-717-1051 ..I have a lot of people wanting the PENTAX 67 ..but , how do I price a 20 25 year old brand new in the box camera ? I have been out of main stream photography for too long . I went to SFCC for my commercial photography degree 1979 to 1982 , when it was considered one of top 10 programs in California . Worked as a medical photographer , then took over photo dept. on SF Presidio. Then Oakland army base ... I got to learn how to use the first real digital cameras on the market .. a Kodak NIKON camera cost $20,000 { only came with a 50mm lens .}. ..it was a real learning adventure .. only had Kodak for info .. we were the first to experiment with this new technology . Kodak and Nikon had few answers .NOW , my $100 cell phone takes better shots . So , now , its time to get back in the game . I am looking at getting a camera with two lens . wide to normal , and long telephoto lens . camera must allow me to be able to manually focus , as needed . OKAY should I get the Canon EOS rebel T6 or the Nikon D3400 , both offer package deals with 18mm-55mm and 70mm to 300mm lens .. I have seen them priced fairly close in price Canon $50 to $120 dollars less than the Nikon .. would like to hear from users of both .. not the opinion of dealer , trying to sale me his choice .. thanks I have a brand new in the box PENTAX 67 paid $1325.00 late 1990s only 1 test roll shot with camera , as it was backup camera , then a month later , we stopped using film cameras .Any one interested ????
I have been out of main stream photography for to... (show quote)

I shoot Nikon because they make the best cameras in the world.
But some people shoot Canon because they make the best cameras in the world.

Seriously, they both make good cameras. Personally I think Nikon has an edge, but that's probably because I'm biased, having used Nikon for 40 years and never used Canon. Canon seems to sell more cameras than Nikon. I don't know why that is, maybe they're better marketers. However that does mean there are probably more used Canons out there than used Nikons. You may take your chances with used equipment, but Manufacturer refurbished equipment might be a more reliable option.

i Chuck,
on ebay, the price for a new, unused, in the box with all paperwork comes to around $1,300.00, for the Pentax 67.
hope this is of assistance to you. whatever, do not give it away. great camera, really good lens system and of course that 6x7 transparency or negative.
all the best,
cody
