I am amazed at the folks here at UHH that don't have Paypal. I wonder if they know how easy it is to set up and use. And realize the convenience of sending money (fee free) to family and friends. All that you need is a bank account to link to your Paypal account and I would presume most on this forum have a bank account.

IMHO it is rather silly to buy and sell without a Paypal account. Receiving payment for a sale is almost instant through Paypal vs waiting for a check or money order to arrive in the mail, driving to the bank to deposit the check and waiting to ensure the check goes through which all happens over 5-7 days unless the check gets lost and then who knows how long.

While I'm sure there are still valid reasons for writing a check or buying a money order, please consider a Paypal account. You will wonder why you didn't jump in a long time ago.

I had a pay pal account, luckily never kept much money in it . I ended up getting it hacked and all the money taken out the bank did give me my money back but no pay pal account for me.

I agree with you, young lady. I have had PayPal for over four years now, and don't know how I did without it. As far as having a paper trail for tax records, I just print out my history for my tax man, and he assures me that is all the IRS asks of me.

I once paid my pet sitters through Paypal and a month later the sitters sent me a bill with late fees for non-payment. I called them and assured them I had paid. They contacted Paypal and were told I hadn't. Since I am a "paper trail" person I had printed the "receipt" and also had my credit card statement. I emailed these to the pet sitters and they contacted Paypal. Several months later Paypal finally admitted their mistake and paid the sitters. The next time I used the pet sitters I paid by check. I know that this is probably a one in a million situation but I will not use Paypal again if I can help it. Once burned.......

That's unfortunate but your funds in the bank could be compromised without a Paypal account too. I'm glad you got your money back.

I’ve had a PayPal account for several years now and have done hundreds of transactions with a problem. A while back I purchased a Canon 600 ex-rt flash from a reputable eBay store and paid via PayPal. Several months after the purchase I read a notice from Canon about counterfeit 600ex-rt flash units. Upon closer examination I determined the flash I had purchased was one of the counterfeit units so I contacted eBay and they said to much time had passed for them to do anything. They said to contact PayPal, which I did. Again, told too much time had passed for them to offer me a refund. I explained the Canon notice had just been issued and without it I would not have known the flash was counterfeit. They reimbursed me over half the original cost of the flash, even though they didn’t have to, and told me to keep the flash. Every time I have dealt with PayPal customer service, they have always been courteous, polite, helpful and pleasant.

I have occasionally used paypal, but it's not that convenient for me because I only do it on my desktop. I will not do any financial transactions on my phone. I don't view it as secure. So that means I can only use it at home.

For one thing I've lost my phone several times. I use a pouch that goes onto my belt to hold my phone. The closures are not all that reliable, and the loop that holds it onto the belt has worn out a couple times. Keeping my phone in my pocket exposes it to all sorts of hazards since all sorts of things go into my pockets and since I do a lot of physical work, things in my pockets get bumped and crushed frequently.

But at least you have the capability to send a Paypal payment from your home computer which is where I conduct almost all of my buy/sell.

I had a problem with PayPal a few years ago and quit. This year my wife opened one and so far no problems and she uses if several times a week.

I should have started Paypal. Haha.
I had to call customer service just this morning and was very impressed with the service provided.
Paypal bends over backward for the buyer, but not so much for the seller. So I hear.

I have used PayPal since it was formed. It has some security issues and you had to be careful in the early days. Then EBay bought it and it ballooned, as did it's security. Now it is independent again and security issues have never been better. I have never had a hint of an issue with them myself in the almost 20 years of using it.

The only thing I don't like about PayPal is when I'm a seller on eBay. They get 3% of the sale (on most items) and the thing that is really wrong is that some crooks have figured out that all they have to do is open a complaint against the seller, even if the complaint is a lie, and they get their money back and the seller is the one that suffers the loss. Trust me, this has happened to a couple of friends of mine that sell a lot on eBay. Most of the time they don't even get the item back.

Paypal is noot a walk in the park. I had one years ago and purchased an eye piece for my telescope through them. The eye piece was advertised as perfect in like new condition. When I received it, it was scratched beyond (really don't have a word). It looked like a young kid spent the afternoon scratching the front element with a sharp instrument; it was totally destroyed. If I had used just my credit card, all I would have had to do is attempt to notify the seller to return it. When he refused, one call to my credit card company and an instant refund; end of the problem. But because I went through paypal, I had to get the money back through paypal. It took weeks and hours of hell to get paypal to credit me. If that was not bad enough, then paypal put my money in my account and would not send it back to me. It took almost two years and a complaint to the attorney general to get my money back. My paypal account was immediately cancelled as soon as I got my money. Will I ever deal with them; not in my lifetime and I would always advise anyone else to NEVER deal with them in any way at all.

On the sellers side, I fail to see why anyone would want go through a pay system that takes a percentage of their sales. It only raises the price of selling items. And there really is no extra security for them either; all you have to do si wait for the payment in their hands before they send out the item; paypal is nothing but false security that you pay for. Doesn't make sense to me at all.

I've been using it for years - very convenient. As soon as I have money deposited, I withdraw it.
