That is a treasure to be sure. Your mother was a very attractive looking young lady. Thanks so much for sharing it with all of us. To me that is what photography is all about. Keeping those precious memories alive.
I have an album full of pictures from the 1900's and earlier that have no names on them. If only someone had taken the time to identify the subjects on the back!
Hello Milocat,
I know just how you feel. I have an album that belonged to my great grandmothers sister. It is a beautiful album , all embossed leather with brass closures to keep it closed. Unfortunately unlike my great grandmother she didn't label any of the pictures. The only thing I could do was to date some of them. Some of them have a revenue stamp on the back.
A law enacted in the North required every photograph taken between 1 September 1864 and 1 August 1866 to have a tax stamp affixed to the back. When they ran out of revenue stamps blue playing card stamps were affixed in the summer of 1866. I went to our county historian to see if there was any way to identify any of them and she just shook her head.
When I look into the eyes of the people posted here I try to imagine what they were thinking and what life was like for them, what stories they could tell.....

They are quite amazing.....the farther back in time the harder life was for most. Every picture I see of my grandparents and their parents the women mostly wore black for everything. Very old beyond their years too......
I know times were tough, and they seem sad

Maybe not so much sad as not much to be happy about. Life was tough....

the photographer captured the very essence of this adorable young lady in an equally beautiful pose..one can sense her inner excitement of the new life adventure looming on the horizon, just waiting for her to say 'hello world! it's me..here i come.. ready or not!"

That was a very perceptive observation as to her approach to life. As a devoted Christian - - she was optimistic, ambitious, loving, energetic, resourceful, generous, and kind. She lived life to the fullest and passed on at the age of 88 years.
