Black Rapid has a strap that attaches to the camera lugs instead of the 1/4-20 on the bottom. This leaves it free for a clamp or whatever. They also use a different quick-release instead of the usual two-prong, it's not going to break.

Please provide more information on the strap you mention, including a link, if possible. I do like these straps, but not the tripos socket attachment. Thanks. Chris.

I do not do straps for carrying - only as a tether for my bodypod. I recommend and use a holster and wide belt system like the Tamrac one.

Hi all,

I'm looking for a replacement of the strap that came with my Canon 5D Mk3. I have the 24-105/f4L lens, battery grip and GPS module.
I've looked online and it's truly confusing. There're lots of choices there, B&H alone lists over a thousand items.
Some of the choices are - BlackRapid RS-2 Sport 2, Peak Design Slide Camera Strap SL-T-2, BosStrap.
My needs are comfortable wear (wide padded), adjustable length (I'm not tall!), sling capability and maybe something that also
looks good.

What would you recommend based on your experience?

Thanks, Sam

Black Rapid straps are great. I went to Op/Tech when I got my a6300 because it is light, but the Black Rapid worked on my D7100. I loved it.

I use Peak Design for one main reason. The Peak Design strap connects to your camera on 2 points which allows me to position my camera the way I want it to handle. I use an over the left shoulder and position the camera on my right side in a way that when I reach down to grasp the camera body I am always picking it up in the proper position in my hand. This is harder to do in some cases if your strap only connects to one point on your camera.

This is what I use. A Swiss Arca plate with 1/4" threaded 1/4-20 fastener mounted to the bottom of all camera bodies, a Swiss Arca Clamp with threaded 1/4-20 hole to screw in the Black Rapid strap so that the strap can be quickly used on any Swiss Arca plate that is attached to any of your camera bodies or lens feet that have a short or long plate and this distributes the load at the bottom of the camera body putting less stress on the single tripod mounting hole.

This topic has been discussed time and time again in previous postings -- I simply do not understand why people don't run a simple search for previous discussions before starting yet another discussion.

"What would you recommend based on your experience?"
Sam much depends on your aggregate kit weight and typical genre...
In the studio I don't use a strap of any kind... it would just be in the way...
On location light kit? A black Op/Tech Envy Strap... it's comfortable, has quick disconnects and no logo...
On location long glass (i.e. shooting soccer matches) the Black Rapid RS-7 since my 300mm f/2.8 weights nearly 3kg and the RS-7 can take that abuse... btw, if you are shooting wildlife be certain to get the coated D-Ring so you won't freak out the critters with metallic clanking noise.

Food for thought... If you attend professional sporting events you'll quickly notice that the RS-7 is heavily represented...
It is an industry standard heavy duty sling that simply works... A proverbial classic that is well worth price of admission...

As for looking good? Can't help you there...
Albeit might keep in mind that in fashion form trumps function however for professional usage function is everything...

Hope this helps...

I bought a Carry Speed at Photo Expo a couple of years ago and I still can swear by it. A plate attaches to the tripod mount and has other holes to attach the strap. This offsets the strap from the tripod mount and the offsetting locks the tripod screw making it virtually impossible to fail. You can also attach your tripod quick-release plate to the Carry Speed plate so mounting your camera on your tripod is easy. Was that clear or utterly confusing?

Here's another vote for OpTech. I've been using them for many years.

I'd add that Canon Professional Services' giveaway straps are also OpTech (with CPS logo imprinted on them).

They are the Pro Strap and fit my shoulder so well and they can be equipped with a strap extender for when we need to add from clothing.
