I would get Sony G or GM lenses.

I was looking at that Sigma 150-600. How are you liking that? Ever use it with the extender/teleconverter?
I actually own a Nikon 200-500. As to the teleconverter, they soften the images too much for my preference and I would only use one in extreme circumstance. If you do consider the Sigma 150-600, I have been told the Sport model is the best one to consider.

Thank you for that! ... You listed the 5D Mk4--is it out yet?
Almost! But if the price puts you off, consider a 5D Mk3, which will likely drop some in price when the MK 4 is introduced (supposedly) this month.

I own the Sigma 150-600 Sport. I would and do not use it with a TC because it would just be too slow for any of my purposes which would slow down, or stop, autofocus operation. It is a decent lens, but not a fantastic one. I bought mine for BIF.

Not a beginner, but definitely not a pro... I'm a frequent hobbyist that wants to get better.
I currently have a Canon 70D and a Canon 7D Mark II. I have the utilitarian "comes in the box" lenses and have rented lenses from time to time from Borrow Lenses.
I think it's time for me to have the freedom of spontaneity by owning some real lenses.
IMAGE STABILIZATION is very important.
I like to shoot:
Landscape
Close-up

I want to learn:
Night photography
And now sports, since my daughter's boyfriend was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons!!!
So help me, help me!!!
Let's say I'm willing to spend up to $2000 each lens, but I want them to really be almost everything I might need.
If you could on choose three lenses in the world... What would they be???
And if I could be so bold... What full frame Canon body would you choose?
Thank you so much!!!

I'm a Nikon guy like some of the others and not real sure about Canon prices but know some lenses that should be in the ballpark for you.
Seriously consider the Tamron 15-30 for your wide stuff it has f/2.8 and imagestabilization. The phenomenal 11-24 f/4 canon is 3k.
Then you may want a midrange prime or Zoom that's fast. The 70-200 f/2.8 is stabilized get a used or refurbished one . Can't beat that lens and with the $$ you save getting the Tamron 15-30 you could add it to the canon 70-200 f/2.8 is and buy new.
Then on the long end I know Canon makes a great 300 f/4 not sure if it's stabilized but you shouldn't need that for sports and they are super super great for portraits. The Sigma 150-600 Sport is 2k and tough as nails also either canon 100-400 are great. Don't know their specifics but have only heard great things about them. Really consider a 300 f/4 . It's a way more useful lens than folks give it credit for. I have a Nikon one and just shot football with it last night. Used a 1.4 tc when the light was good in crop mode on my d810. Even cropping some of the pics the resolution was phenomenal. Good luck

16-35 2.8 II 70-200 2.8L 100-400 L II all IS. that should cover everything. As far as full frame is concerned---since you wwant to do sports- go with the 7d2. but if you must go full frame--wait for the 5D mk4 is released and the 5D3 will sell at a bargain.

EF 100-400 L II A no-brainer with the 7DII, IMO. Mine is rarely off my 7DII. Might be pushing your budget a bit but the other two are under budget, so it evens out.
Full frame Canon? My 6D has done a fine job for me for the past 3 yrs, but I am considering the new 5D Mk IV as a possibility. With the 7DII that you have already you really don't anything more expensive then the 6D in order to have all your bases covered.

Couldn't agree more. I have the same combination of bodies and lenses except for the 100-400mm. Instead, I have a 70-200 F/4L + 1.4 teleconverter. And for fun, a Sigma 150-600 Contemporary. Also, living the dream for 5D4 but proceeding carefully on that one. :-)
That's an interesting question. With only 3 lenses to choose, I'd try to cover the broadest range possible and look for good used lenses to stretch the bucks as much as possible.
EF 11-24 f/4L used
EF 28-300 f/3.5-5.6L IS used
Sigma 150-600 Sport
Sigma 1.4 TC 1401
I got a good deal on the used lenses so I got the teleconverter designed for the Sigma zoom.
This selection will cover from 11 to 840 mm.
Body's, you didn't put a cap on body price so my choice(s) would be:
EOS 5DSr for most anything that's not in a hurry.
EOS 1DX II for everything else.
Of this list I have 2 of the lenses, the teleconverter and one of the body's.

IS is on the 24-70 F4, not the F2.8. :-/ ... So when you say the extender is soft, you mean fuzzy (focus)? I'm interested in extenders but am concerned about putting it on the wrong lenses and damaging them. Are they only for the "L" lenses? Or others?
The focus wont be as sharp
this should help you out on which lenses you can use with the extenders

10 -18, 24 -105, 100 - 400mm. All IS and the cheap price of the superb 10-18 allows for the other 2 superb lenses. I have and use all 3 of these lenses and have no regrets at all. I do have a couple of specialized lenses but I could easily live with just these 3. The 10 - 400mm focuses so close at 400mm it is almost like a macro lens compared to all other makes and models of telephoto and telephoto zoom lenses made including the Canon 70 - 200mm f2.8 which the 100 - 400mm covers and doubles and is great on your 7DmII. Just a super versatile lens. The 24 - 105mm is an excellent walk around lens with the 105mm range can reach out quite a bit more than a 70 can hope to do. And the 10 - 18 is just plain incredible. sharp and wide what a combination.
You asked and I answered.

$4000 for all 3, they are all fully stabilized, they have the best warranty out there at 6 years. And yes, I shoot them all, great set of lenses.
For longer I have the Sigma 150-600mm Sport because it's weather sealed, but the Tamron 150-600 is a great alternative at half the price.
Are you ALWAYS going to be limited to a crop sensor body? Remember that Canon crop sensor lenses will not even mount on Canon full frame bodies. Also, Canon lenses only come with a one year warranty, worst in the industry.
Good luck in your decisions.

I'm right on this with Mac. I do have a Nikon 16-36mm as well though.
