If you could choose only 3 lenses (under $2000 each), what? And why?

I was looking at that Sigma 150-600. How are you liking that? Ever use it with the extender/teleconverter?

I have the Sigma 150-600 Contemporary in Nikon and the Sport in Canon. I have the materials 1.4 TC for the Sport and a Sigma 2X for Nikon.

With the 2X TC you lose AF but depending on the subject, images are still pretty good, a little softer but still good.

The Sport with the 1.4 TC and an EOS 5DSr hanging off the small end can give you amazing images, depending on the subject.

I use the C version on my D7200, a nice combo, very lite for a big lens, easy to hand hold.

The S version is usually on my 7D II. Much heavier than the Nikon setup but can still be hand held. When I put the S on the 5DSr, I usually use a tripod although not always.

It's a nice lens and for around $900 the C is a great buy. If you shoot in less than ideal environments, dust, salt air, sand, crap like that, spend the extra, about double, money and get the S model. It's built to withstand some nasty crap.

Which full frame do you normally use? I've rented the 16-35 F2.8 several times. I really like it except that screw that seems to often come lose under the band. Cost me an amazing aurora borealis in Iceland. My first real photo trip and the lens wouldn't turn all night. I pulled the band off the next day and the screw was loose and had jammed sideways underneath. I know that rental lenses get overused, but I found out later that it seems to be a problem with that lens. Have you had that issue? I checked it every night before I went out after that. Quite the learning curve on that trip!... They're coming out with a newer version. I'm thinking I should wait for it to come out, don't you? I mean I know about that problem now, but maybe they have that screw issue fixed. I read that some people actually had to finally glue that screw in! Aaaaaargh!

My full frame is a D4s. The 17-35 doesn't have any issues with screws coming loose. I've probably had it for more than 15 years. I think it is still in the Nikon lineup.

If they are coming out with a newer version of what you want, you owe it to yourself to wait so you can compare the choices. Then make your decision. Good luck.

I think I'm at that point now. If I could keep only three, I might choose my Nikon 80-200mm (older version of the 70-200mm), 28-300mm, and Tokina 16-29mm.

I have used it with a TC... but I would suggest changing switching to "DX" mode if you're shooting with a full-frame.

If IS is really important, even on wide angle lenses, then:

24-70 f4.0L IS or 24-105 f4.0L IS
70-200 f2.8L IS Mk2
100-400 f4.5-5.6L IS Mk2
5D Mk4

If you can give up IS, substitute 24-70 f2.8L for the 24-70 f4.0 or 24-105

These would be my choice also. I would get the 24-105F4.0L IS.

So... Yeah... What about that 5D Mark IV??!! Looks like a lot of exciting stuff in there!!! Also looks like a big learning curve for someone at my level? What do you think? .... I really like that 16-35, but I've rented the F2.8. I had a major problem with a set screw that kept coming loose under the band. They're coming out with a new one soon. Might wait for that, but still no IS... :-/

If you have learned to use the 7DII then the 5DIV should be no problem.
The 16-35 f/4 L does have IS, as do the other two lenses I listed. If you do go with a 6D or possibly even the 5DIV you will find that the f/4 version will fulfill most all of your needs, as well as being lighter, less expensive, and with slightly better IQ.
Unless you really want to spend the money for a 5DIV I still think the 6D is your best bet for FF. The 7DII you already have will do everything the 6D can't, and then some. There are also some good EF-S lenses that will work with the 7DII but not with a FF, which makes them a questionable expense. The 18-135 is one that often gets praised. Just the same, lenses will outlast bodies by a good bit usually. If you can afford it, then, IMO, always go for the best quality. In the Canon line that would be the L's.
I see that some have mentioned the EF 70-200 f/2.8 L II. I have that lens, and it is excellent, but since buying the 100-400 L II I find that I have much less use for it. It comes in handy for indoor sports with my 7DII, but otherwise, with the 6D's high ISO performance and the improved IS of the newer lenses I don't find much use for it. Plus, the IQ of the two lenses is quite comparable and the 100-400 will focus closer.

Hey Everyone!

As you can tell by my User Name "photogrow"... I have a lot to learn!

Not a beginner, but definitely not a pro... I'm a frequent hobbyist that wants to get better.

I currently have a Canon 70D and a Canon 7D Mark II. I have the utilitarian "comes in the box" lenses and have rented lenses from time to time from Borrow Lenses.

I think it's time for me to have the freedom of spontaneity by owning some real lenses.

IMAGE STABILIZATION is very important.

AH, yes. The difference between men and boys is the price of their toys.
I like to shoot:

Landscape
Close-up
People
Animals

I want to learn:

Night photography
And now sports, since my daughter's boyfriend was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons!!!

So help me, help me!!!

Let's say I'm willing to spend up to $2000 each lens, but I want them to really be almost everything I might need.

If you could on choose three lenses in the world... What would they be???

And if I could be so bold... What full frame Canon body would you choose?

Thank you so much!!!

I have the 7D MII & 5D MIII. I have the Canon 24 - 70 mm f/2.8 II, Canon 70 - 200 f/2.8 II, Canon 50 mm f/1.4, Canon Telextender 2x III. There are not many photo opportunities I miss with these combinations. If I did more long range shooting with low light, I'd probably opt for the Canon 100 - 400 f/4 II. Call B & H - maybe they'll offer you a discount if you buy all lenses together. Another trustworthy merchant is http://www.profeel.com. I know they will offer best prices - call them and speak with Ester. B & H, Adorama, Cameta & Profeel are authorized Canon dealers.

Good choices. The 24-70mm would be the very first choice for me.

Only 3? That's a tough one, but my choices for your subject matter would be a 24-70 f2.8, a 70-200 f2.8 ($2,000 limit might be pressed a little here, but this focal length is so useful). The third lens would be a hard choice. Either a 16-35, a fast 50mm, or something like Sigma's 150-600 sport, which conveniently falls just under that price limit. I think you will find that to adequately cover your chosen subject matter, you will "need" all of these........and there will always be that "want" for more.
