I'm looking for a wide angle lens for my Nikon D7100, no fisheye. Looked at the Nikon 10-24MM. Don't want to spend $800 plus. Any suggestion on another Brand? Or should i just bite the bullet?

Thanks,
Sam

Sam, My 2 cents. Bite the bullet. I have the Nikon 10-24 and love it. You only live once.

Back when I was a Canon user, I got a Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 lens. When I switched to Pentax, although Canon is known for their lenses, that Sigma lens is the one I really missed, so I was happy when I was able to get the K-mount version of that lens. In checking B&H, I see the f/3.5 variant of that lens is available for Nikon @ $449.

I am using Tokina 11-20 F2.8. It has good reviews, it is a DX lens so fits your APS-C D7100 camera.

A Tokina 12-24mm works great on a D7100.

Sam, not taking anything from Nikon in general their lenses are all good. I currently use Canon equipment because it goes back to when I started in the late 60s and when I was looking a wide angle I went with the Sigma 10-20mm. I really enjoy the lens and when ever I am walking around downtown or taking scenic it is on my camera. Very good lens at an affordable price. One other thing to remember, when it comes to selling equipment I believe the Nikon lenses will sell closer to their purchase price than a Sigma or Tamron would. There are exceptions to that way of thinking but in general I believe that to be true. Also look at the used market and you may find exactly what you would prefer. Most of my lenses are used and I am very happy with them. KEH and B&H have great inventories and my Sigma Macro I bought from KEH as used and rated 9+ and it looked like a new one and it came in it's original box which barely show any use.

I'll second that Tokina 11-20mm DX f2.8. Great lens, very sharp and it won't break the bank.

I used the Tokina 11-16mm - with that huge 5mm spread! - with my D7100. When I went FF, I got the Tokina 16-28mm. For the price, I have no complaints about either. Look for reviews and comparisons.

I prefer the Sigma 8-16 at the price of the Nikon. The Sigma 10-20 f 4-5.6 is also quite good for the price. Avoid the f3.5 version for its abysmal corner performance at 10 mm.

Why buy new? A few months ago I got a Nikon 12-24 f4 DX lens off ebay, Mint in the box for 390.00. SHARP, SHARP, SHARP. Now you can also get a 12-24 Nikon off ebay Mint in the box for a little more. I have NEVER gotten a bad lens off ebay that was Mint in the box. So, don't spend $800.00. Save some money and get Mint in the box for a lot less and get the SAME quality.

After reading a few reviews that actually rated the Sigma 10-20 4-5.6 better than the comparable Nikon I decided to take a chance and save a few hundred bucks. I have never regretted the choice. The Sigma lens works great on my D7100. I have made transcontinental road trips when I never used another lens. Of course you will never go wrong with anything that says "Nikon" on it!

If you decide to go with a brand other than Nikon, then RENT IT FIRST! Some 3rd party lenses are not as quick to focus. You'll regret the decision not to go with Nikon if you end up with a crappy lens. Because performance is not just about sharpness and you may miss a shot while the lens is hunting
