The mailman delivered the latest B&H Catalog to me today. For someone into photography and creative audio (voice overs for radio & TV), the catalog is like waving a bottle of beer in front of an alcoholic. There's so much I want, some of it I actually need.

Anyone else have the same experience today?!! :-o

Did not get the B&H today. Perhaps tomorrow. Chicago mail is slow. I did go looking for a Craigslist large darkroom sink. I rejected the sink and I said, 'what else do have photographic.' I obviously meant pornographic and this very nice woman pointed at some large cases and told me to take a look. Pandoras box! To make a long story short I bought everything but the sinks. Big money, great deal. I am now a Sinar guy ...

I also left lusting after this very pretty woman that has got to be 10 years older. I go nuts for European accents. I bet I see her again. She is moving to my neighborhood.

I pick up the cameras tomorrow. I just hope I have not been dreaming!

I found some real nice affordable caster wheels for my camera stand in Northern Tools. I read catalogs like books, cover to cover. I imagine all the ways I could take advantage of the items. So sick!

I know what you are talking about, but I just got a major fix the day befor yesturday. On craigs list I found a complete studio lighting setup left behind by a pro photoghraper when she retired. I thought it was to good to be true at $1800.00 but then I talked there into taking $1300.00. Ive got that warm fuzzy feiling and today I get to play with all that stuff. soft boxes, booms, 3 1500ws lights w/control boxes, backdrop stands, reflector stands, light stand in all different sizes, sun shades and defusers. The seller even gave me a tutoral on the setup. Know I get to study my but off on how to properly use all that stuff. I cant wait!

Eventually, many people reach a point where the money is there but they have come to understand that sooo much of the candy is just...filler...
I now ask myself a series of questions...starting with...
Do I really need this?
Will it pay for itself?
How long will it take to show real returns?
What is the least expensive way to place it in my hands?
Should I borrow on it or pay cash?
And finally the flip side of the coin...
If I buy a piece of equipment...and find it sits in the studio for more than six months without being used or with very, very little use (i.e., I made a mistake...) then I send it down the river...I sell it or trade it for something that makes me money...
Too many people buy stuff they "just have to own" and then watch it collect dust and take up space............

I get that catalog in the mail periodically. I don't actually buy anything, I just like looking at all the neat stuff. I use a pen or a highlighter to mark the items I'd like to buy if I had the money. Yeah! Like that's going to happen. I'll keep an eye out for the newest catalog.

"Friends" are always telling me to clear out stuff. I never do. 6 months and get rid of it. No way. I am often fishing out something 10 years old I am very glad to have.

Hell, I lost 30 lbs in the last year and now my old leather jackets fit again. I am sure glad I do not need to buy them again.

Same goes for tools, cameras, guns and all the little bins of parts I have. I just used my tap and die set to fix a camera, first usage of the set in 3 years.

With your criteria I would be starting over every 7 months.

Each to their own. I say.

2 Sinar, 4x5 and 8x10. 6 excellent German lenses 90 to 480 mm all in Copal.

The lenses were the deal. The cameras were free. Also 3 Manfrotto booms and 2 heavy duty tripods. Assorted other stuff. Even full sandbags... Big fitted cases, good umbrellas, big round case for light stands. The only junk is the old Balcor flash heads without power supply. I may retrofit the Balcor for the retro look.

I don't even want to know what you paid for it.
Great find! Can you buy me some lottery tickets?
