I never gamble and I do not play the Lotto.

The lotto is a poor mans tax.

2 Sinar, 4x5 and 8x10. 6 excellent German lenses 90 to 480 mm all in Copal.

The lenses were the deal. The cameras were free. Also 3 Manfrotto booms and 2 heavy duty tripods. Assorted other stuff. Even full sandbags... Big fitted cases, good umbrellas, big round case for light stands. The only junk is the old Balcor flash heads without power supply. I may retrofit the Balcor for the retro look.

I don't even want to know what you paid for it.
Great find! Can you buy me some lottery tickets?

Neither do I. I was just kidding. I'm always amazed at the number of card parked at casinos around here.
Hoping it's for the food, but I doubt it.

It's still off by over 20 years.
I hate to have my photo taken.

"Friends" are always telling me to clear out stuff. I never do. 6 months and get rid of it. No way. I am often fishing out something 10 years old I am very glad to have.

Hell, I lost 30 lbs in the last year and now my old leather jackets fit again. I am sure glad I do not need to buy them again.

Same goes for tools, cameras, guns and all the little bins of parts I have. I just used my tap and die set to fix a camera, first usage of the set in 3 years.

With your criteria I would be starting over every 7 months.

Each to their own. I say.

Eventually, many people reach a point where the money is there but they have come to understand that sooo much of the candy is just...filler...
I now ask myself a series of questions...starting with...
Do I really need this?
Will it pay for itself?
How long will it take to show real returns?
What is the least expensive way to place it in my hands?
Should I borrow on it or pay cash?
And finally the flip side of the coin...
If I buy a piece of equipment...and find it sits in the studio for more than six months without being used or with very, very little use (i.e., I made a mistake...) then I send it down the river...I sell it or trade it for something that makes me money...

You are correct sir...I suppose I wasn't clear enough. I try to buy the best of tools...be it a simple screw driver or a chain saw. Fine tools are fine tools and the better quality the better job they do...for you...the longer they last and the more value they hold. I was speaking mostly of "stuff," especially gadget stuff and photo gadget stuff. If you see something and make a compulsive purchase for the new photo widget ding-a-ma-thing, it sort of works o.k., but in reality over several months you realize you screwed up...my policy is to get rid of it and use whatever money you recoup to purchase something that hopefully will help you make money or complete task more efficiently. Too many people buy "stuff" on impulse and then just hang on to it forever....that's following one mistake with another...
If I own something that I can see where "someday...I'm gonna need that thing..." well, with inflation, quality decline, etc., YES, by all means keep it. You'll be damn glad you own it some day...
