I must also commend Nikon for the way they are handling this recall. You call in your serial number to Nikon and they confirm whether or not is a recall item. They then send out a UPS courier to recover the bad battery and hand deliver a replacement to you on the spot.
Now THATS the way to handle a problem!!!!
KUDOS Nikon!
(And a perfunctory BOO to Sony who manufactures these batteries for Nikon cameras.)
I'm not a Nikon shooter but that is certainly a stand up way to correct a problem. Good for them. Keeps the pressure on the competition which benefits the market as a whole.

Now we'll have to watch and see what Canon does about their light leak fiasco on the 5D Mk III

There is no light leak fiasco. When Canon heard the rumors, they apparently stopped shipping 5D Mark III's, in case they needed to recall them. They did a lot of testing and decided the rumor was either completely false or seriously overblown. They restarted shipping again on the 23rd.
I've been following this closely, since I am seriously interested in a Mark III, even though they are priced pretty high.

They never did address the AF hunting problem with the Mk II, just let it slide. Only time will tell.
Oh, and what happened to the 1DX that was supposed to release last September, November, January, May, Summer????????
If you read Shutterbug, Popular Photography, or Outdoor Photographer take a look at what many of the professionals are using. They don't seem to have a serious problem with the 5D Mark II. My 50D uses a similar AF system and while it is not the best, it keeps up with my 7D, most of the time.
You seem to be enjoying any problems, or perceived problems, Canon has. You won't find me making fun of Nikon's, when they have a problem. Both companies make excellent cameras. Why can't we just leave it at that.
Agreed, maybe do a calendar!

Great pug shots, way too cute.

Oh my goodness! That is too cute!!! You should send that in to various mags--I can't believe they sat still for that let alone let you dress them up! Nice shot.
They are amazing. The second I turn on a camera and get the clothes out they are ready to pose. This is my HMO...can't get better health care. By the way I used my Nikon D7000 for both the shots.
These are outstanding! Ours are nudists - don't like clothes at all - except for their collars.
I just got my D7000 and the battery is a recall one. Can't thank you enough for the info. This link is probably the only way I would have found out.
Thanks again

It is my understanding that the 1DX has a (surprise, surprise) battery problem. As "professional" cameras need more power to handle everything they can now do, we seem to be running into more battery problems. Obviously, the people making camera batteries need to "up their game."

Strange then how there are Canon LP-E4N batteries available for purchase, and even aftermarket replacement batteries, but no cameras to use them in. Puzzling???

Good question. I have no idea. I'm just repeating what Canon is telling us. They have always been straight with me in the past, but that doesn't mean they couldn't be stretching the truth now. I certainly wouldn't be interested in buying one of those batteries, until I know what it will work in. The batteries used in various electric and hybrid vehicles, also seem to be "problematic" from time to time.
Wow MT! Thanks for letting me know about Canon 5D issues. I was going back to Canon and that was one I had been contemplating to get. Refurb? Well, now since I own lesser Nikon , I have been looking into the D700 FX? Any thoughts on this will be greatly apprectiated.
Thanks and your images rock!

With the release of the D800, the price of the D700 is sure to fall about the time production numbers of the D800 surpass the pre-orders and reach inventory stock levels. Be patient for another couple of months. Also, used D700's will be flooding the market from users who are upgrading. There could be some really good deals on the D700 this summer, and its still a great camera.

Yes. Lithium Ion batteries have been problematic since their inception. Remember the spontaneous combustion cell phone of just a few years ago?

Thank you for the compliment. I am really new to dSLR's as I never had anything so sophisticated as a kid. I still have my Brownie! I have really had to study hard to learn the terminology and the parts of the camera, but I am getting there. I have had several people tell me to put together a book and/or a calendar. The two photos I posted are just the tip of the iceberg of my collection.

Like I mentioned to MT, the "issues" with the 5D Mark II and Mark III are overblown, but I doubt you would be unhappy with a D700. My first digital camera was a Nikon (a high-end P&S) and it served me well, but I had always used Canon SLRs, so I went that way when I upgraded to a DSLR. The competition between Nikon and Canon will probably never end, and that is good for us, the users.
