Both of mine are good "D" batteries. It looks like no one is selling cheap imitations yet. Amazon is selling the Nikon battery for $99. Shocking! I got my second battery from Crutchfield when they had a special on them for $49.

We've always used the cheap imitations, like Opteka, in camcorders, etc., with no problem. Now I see I could have ruined my camera with an "official" battery. What is this world coming to? Remember a few years ago Sony batteries were causing problems in laptops?

The light leak "fiasco" ??

WOW, I can feel the love here !

Fixing a trivial problem on the Mark III with a firmware upgrade is no big deal.

Selling a camera that might explode, set your house on fire or potentially kill somebody ..............

Oh yeah, KUDOS to Nikon !

I can see the objectivity here.

From Nikon: "While Nikon takes great measures to assure high quality products, it has come to our attention that a certain number of EN-EL15 batteries manufactured by one of our suppliers did not meet Nikon’s internal quality standards. In extremely rare cases, this may cause the battery to overheat and the exterior casing to become deformed."

No fire. No explosion. Of course, if you store you camera inside a box of fireworks, as I do, then that could cause a problem - deformed fireworks.

I must also commend Nikon for the way they are handling this recall. You call in your serial number to Nikon and they confirm whether or not is a recall item. They then send out a UPS courier to recover the bad battery and hand deliver a replacement to you on the spot.
Now THATS the way to handle a problem!!!!
KUDOS Nikon!
(And a perfunctory BOO to Sony who manufactures these batteries for Nikon cameras.)

I did a check myself just now, EL9 and EL14 for my two
cameras, whew, I don't like "fry". Not crazy about my
Sony Laptop either. Their products have been in my home
for many years, but I'll never get another Sony computer.
Thanks to all UHH folks for all your help. A shot just for fun.

They never did address the AF hunting problem with the Mk II, just let it slide. Only time will tell.
