They are all really good, however I personally prefer the first two.

Very interesting comparison Vicki. For me I like the first two. I thinks it's the bokeh. It lends itself to the true colors of the subject. Very nice set.

Thanks for taking time to make a comparison between these Doc. You've been quite helpful, and I value your opinion.

I played around with white balance while getting some shots of the Gold-crowned Sparrows that are wintering here. Some were shot with the "cloudy" setting, others with the "sunny" setting. I can't decide which I like better - warm or cool. Any thoughts?

It all about your taste per photo, I make that same decision with all of my shots. Since I never know until after I download, I shoot in raw and pick the one I like the best per photo.

All nice but the color, contrast, and sharpness of #1 are #1

Either set works for me. But if I had to pick a set it would be the first one.

Most people see to agree that the warmer shots are more appealing. Those that prefer the other two like them for a different reason. Thanks for taking time to look and comment NJFrank.

Great shots, I believe the warm is closer to the true color.
Sarantis

Thank you Sarantis. You may be right about the color although I've also noticed that the birds' colors change as the light and weather conditions change. Changes in the camera settings can duplicate those changes to some degree or even create a desired effect by warming or cooling the colors. Of course, the same thing can be done during editing.

I like the warm ones better but for me I shoot in the "cloudy" setting about 98% of the time during the day light. I just happen to like warm tones more but everybody to their own. By the way I do like the photos very much....Rich

Thank you Rich. I really appreciate your thoughtful and helpful comments.

I think you've nailed it. In the end it comes down to which YOU like the best based on what you're trying to achieve.
