I think it depends on the story. Summer photos green leaves warm weather then I like the warm WB. Winter, cold, barren trees, I would prefer a cooler color balance.

Thanks for the very good points JD. I appreciate them.

For starters, I really like the series. Little birds are so pretty when you capture them in detail. My personal taste goes to the first two shots. Whatever the season, if there is warm light on the birds, this is how they would likely look. That coloring also makes me feel good.

Thanks Carol. I supposed the intent of posting cute, little birds is to make viewers feel good on some level, so I see your point about keeping them warm.

They're all beautiful shots, Vicki. My personal preference is for the warm ones. Adds a bit more life to them.

Thanks for your thoughts on this Randy. I suppose if they were lying feet up on the ground with lifeless eyes I'd want to keep the colors cooler. :-)

I played around with white balance while getting some shots of the Gold-crowned Sparrows that are wintering here. Some were shot with the "cloudy" setting, others with the "sunny" setting. I can't decide which I like better - warm or cool. Any thoughts?

I like them all, like the last two the best.

My personal preference is the first two shots. To me, the birds seemed to pop out of the shots. I love the warmth of the colors.

After reading the entire list of comments and responses, I understand that the first two shots are actually the "Cloudy" setting.

So, now I need to experiment when I go out to shoot birds in the future. We all learn from breaking out of our comfort zones.

Beautiful sharp shots. I love the warmer shots. Your birds are always so crisp and beautiful.
I have tried to get birds to come in sharp and usually strike out.

I'm for the warm versions, rich colors always grab my eye. But they are all excellent Viki.

Very interesting comparison Vicki. For me I like the first two. I thinks it's the bokeh. It lends itself to the true colors of the subject. Very nice set.
