Great set, but I do prefer the warmer colors. Interesting experiment.

For starters, I really like the series. Little birds are so pretty when you capture them in detail. My personal taste goes to the first two shots. Whatever the season, if there is warm light on the birds, this is how they would likely look. That coloring also makes me feel good.

They're all beautiful shots, Vicki. My personal preference is for the warm ones. Adds a bit more life to them.

Thanks for the input Linda. Somehow you wouldn't expect the "cloudy" setting to produce warmer colors. Maybe someone who understands the physics of light and color would be able to explain the dynamics, but it doesn't make sense to me. Once you learn how the setting affects the tone, you can easily get the desired effect.

Both sets are sharp. Which is which?

The first two are with the "cloudy" wb setting, the last two are the "sunny" shots.

Great shots. I love the warm.

Thanks for the comment and vote Jerry. I still haven't decided on my personal preference. Some pros have written that they like the "cloudy" or "shady" settings for the warmth they produce.

For me I like the second two photo's..
I believe the main subject of the photo is the bird and for me the bird just stands out much more in the later two photos...In the first two my eyes seem to wander away from the birds and just makes it to busy for me...just my humble opinion....not taking anything away at all from the first two photos..... :) ....Tom

I see your point Tom: warm brown against a warm background vs. warm brown against the cooler gray background. Thanks for adding to the discussion and making an interesting point.

I like the images with the sunshine white balance the best because the bird seems to pop out ( a little more contrasty) and it has more natural looking green leaves in my opinion.

I believe you're right about the contrast, however on some level and technicalities aside, this gets down to personal preferences.

Thanks for your thoughts.

It isn't about you, or your taste.
What color are the birds supposed to be?

Very good point. It's interesting that the "cloudy" setting is close to what the birds look like on a sunny day and the "sun" setting reflects what they look like on a cloudy, winter day. Other than that, the birds' colors are pretty true in both situations but perhaps just a little closer to reality in the first two.
