If you can go back, I'd recommend some close-up abstracts of the rust spots.

Thanks! I can't go back to PA to chase this one down :( but I did take a whole bunch of close ups and different angles too. The left side was in really nice light, and features in the front (headlamps, front grill, steering wheel) were fun closeups. Best old vehicle I ever found!

Minnie,

Here is one rendition of your image. I used ACR and then went into Photoshop. I did not use any other program and made several adjustments using 14 layers plus the Background layer.

I made many Curves Layers and saturation layers for various colors and saturation. I also did a lot of my work with masks and also did some selective lightening and darkening. See what you think of this one.

Best Regards,
Tom

Well you sure enough found those blues you were talking about! I went back to look at my workflow, and I did do some color shifting in Topaz Restyle, but it was only directed at the foliage colors. I may go back and try the blues as well. Blue and yellow work so well together.

Oh Dave popped on to see how it was all going!

You went for the rusted look with a more subdued color scheme than Tom or I chose. I am glad to see Dave but why is he alone? There's room for more of his friends...

Oh how I wish I had this near me, I would spend hours with this beauty. This is my attempt at playing around.

The forest clearing looks nothing special min but the car is something else so just tried to make the car the star of the show in a gentle way.
Conkerwood seems to have seen it as I did and subdued his background to bring the car to the fore.

Cat got a little freaked by all that open space our dove was sleeping pig was foraging for food elsewhere and the grim reaper had a heavy reaping session yesterday and was sat at home with a beer and the The Daily Reaper.

This one is, by far, the best attempt. It's believable and brings just enough.

Now if it just had a "figure" in the front drivers side.....

Yeah I agree about the clearing though the featureless grey sky and the over exposure around the leaves at the back left weren't ideal, but that car is absolutely perfect, it really deserved some love in PP. Jim wanted a driver, me I wanted a bracket of exposures so that I could pull some details out of the very black interior. As for Cat and the mob you will be pleased to know that One Toe did his usual trick of waking us up by trying to break the window at 5:00 am, looking for breakfast, Pinkie gave me that flirty look, anything for food and Hoppity proved that even if you have only one good leg you can still beat the cr*p out of anyone who gets in your way. BTW for those spreading the rumour that Billy is my long lost brother, its not true, he is much better looking than I am.

Great subject Min. Many thanks for the chance to have a go.

Peter

Thanks for the nice version, Peter. I wish it were close enough for me to revisit. I have a bunch of interesting snaps from various angles to work with though, including some details that are gonna be fun, especially from the front. I never found an old wreck any nicer than this one.

I thought the reaper might make a good driver, and the others would just climb in and go along for the ride, except for the birds of course, who have plenty of room to fly or perch.

A reaper is an excellent idea but I'd go for contrast with a sweet thing at the wheel looking intently at the photographer.
I have a bevy and would be happy to lean you one. lol

The theme of the jalopy rusting away in nature is perhaps a tired, old cliche, but the colors throughout the image really bring this image to life and make it stand out.

Minnie,

Here are two more that have resulted in my playing. I decided to get rid of most the color in one and left a little in another, especially after seeing some others posted. See what you and others think. Thanks for allowing me to do some playing.

Best Regards,
Tom

I don't take pictures of vehicles unless they're old and broken down, and then I don't really know what to do with them. This old wreck that I came upon in the Pennsylvania woods was irresistible, so I had to try. Comments and suggestions appreciated.

Min. Gotta hand it to ya. A number of versions have been tried but in my opinion no one has got the feel that is your original photograph. It may have a few faults but therein lies part of its charm.

How can an old wreck be charming? Just ask my best half. She'll give the low down on the most charming old wreck she knows.

(Edit: Alice just looked at this entire thread and she was in agreement with me that the original photograph is by far the better one. She also said that I am not really an old wreck - just old.)
