It's a beautiful shot, Linda! It conveys different moods and reflections. Any title you give it will suggest to the viewer. Great job!

Thank you so much, tk. I'm very pleased you enjoyed.

FYC forum had an interesting discussion about using titles a couple of months ago; don't know if you saw.

As I was processing this close-up of a white horse behind the brown one, I felt that it could be an image of a horse dreaming about another horse. Did I succeed in conveying that mood? If not, your suggestions would be much appreciated :)

Unfortunately I did not pick up on your intended symbolism Linda, I just plainly love this shot. The beautifully backlit white horse gives a dreamy quality to the photo but doesn't imply that the dark horse was having the dream. I feel that it should have a frame and be hung on your wall.

Oh, Linda, this is a real treasure. Yes, it does convey the thoughts you associated with it. Before I even read what you wrote, it seemed to me like a horse thinking of a lost companion. We all project our interpretations onto the images we see but mine was pretty close to what you had in mind. I would like to think that all the creatures dream...

The capture, composition and processing are really wonderful. print this one big and frame it in a barnwood frame!

Linda like most who commented I too did not come up with the horse's dream theme. Personally I like just the front horse. The longer I looked at the download I found the second horse to be a distraction. But hey that's just me

Thank you so much, Minnie. I'm delighted you enjoyed! I'm going to try to remember to not read OP's comments before viewing a shot, just so I can get a clean first impression. Of course, that doesn't help with those pesky "leading" titles, does it :)

First, it's a beautiful image, Linda. Open to interpretation, and yours is as good as any, if not even better! Horses do dream, as all sentient creatures do (altho REM sleep only occurs when they're lying down). Of what, no one can say. Green meadows, warm sunshine, and friends.

The image itself has a wonderful dreamy quality to it. The monochrome adding to that, and I can easily see the slightly misted background and second horse as unreal. Don't know if blurring them out further might help your 'dream-state' background here, but you could try it, maybe leave only a hint of that second horse. A fun project to try.

Nice work!

What strikes me most is how much the image feels like a tintype or other such medium giving it that old world quality adding the the already ethereal feel. It a strong image, one I'd be proud to own, but always curious I wonder if you've cropped this and can add a little more room on the left. It isn't necessarily needed, but might relieve some the tension and put us back in the dreamy mood you've intended.

I'm curious too, about the processing and wonder if this is a new technique for you. As always, thank you for sharing!!! S-

Thank you so much for your detailed impressions and suggestions, Randy. Greatly appreciated!

The one thing I did differently for this version vs. the one posted to Photo Gallery awhile back is to remove the nostril of the white horse :)

Thanks for your input, Steve! Let me go back and check the original; can't recall about the crop. I know part of the processing is "duplex" or soft focus filters in Nik Color Efex, which I've used a lot in Photo Gallery. Also cloned a lot of the white horse out to make it less distinct. The image is on another computer; I'll find and report back :)

Thanks again!

Here is the original. Along with Nik Color Efex's "Duplex" filter, I had a layer of high key.

All of my edited versions of this shot are cropped. I read recently that one should crop early in the editing process, but this situation is an example of why that might not be the best idea. I'll have to read up on that, and ask other folks what they do.
