No, the image is 16 MB.
The 1.5 crop factor is a linear measurement. MP is an area measurement so 1.5x1.5=2.25, 36 MP/2.25=16.
That makes the 8-16 DX the equivalent of a 12-24 FX lens on a 16 MP full frame camera.
