I use Acronis True Image.
I've had catastrophic failures happen (use computers enough, and it happens). With True Image, it's a simple matter of using a rescue DVD to read the image from an external drive and re-install the image to the new drive.
A small price to pay to get your new computer just like the old one, OS, apps & data just like they were.

Don't see how that will help if you are outside on battery power. Anyone I have ever known who was that close to a strike had broken eardrums and blood coming out their ears. You were lucky indeed.

Lesson Learned..

well it happened lighting hit the computer and wiped out everything, have to start all over again. load programs and plugins and everything. it sure scared me. I was out side and it hit 2 feet away from me the flash of light was so brilliant and the crack of the lighting hitting was so loud I ran so hard to get in the house and my dog was hiding between the wall and the toilet he is afraid of storms. I did have everything backed up. just going to be a while to load everything again.

Lighting or Lightning? Glad you didn't say that your computer was struck by thunder. Invest in a premium surge protector, even a whole house surge protector.
