I installed Win10 64 bit and it lost the registration for my New Blue Effects plugins on Premiere Pro, bringing back the pre registration banner across the video frames. I also noticed some unexplained freezing on my PC during the few days I ran Win 10. I rolled back to Win 8.1 and plan to stay there. The roll back was not smooth, it froze. I took a chance and pulled the power plug for 5 seconds after 4 hours, and then the roll back finished off in another 20 minutes.

You are aware that for a few days after the switch to Win 10 the drivers and things are updating, which slows the machine down a little and can freeze it if you persist in doing things while it is updating. Also Win 10 did not come in one packet. It was a main download and then updates etc. after that. I have opened programs I hadn't used since installing Win 10 start to do an update for compatability with Win 10 as soon as I opened them. There are more to come, at least one I know of the company is "working on it" and I will get the update "soon". Not MS or Win10, third party's problem.

I just got a notice that the next time I use CC Cleaner it has an update for compatability with Win10. So I will open it, click yes and wait for it to update before I try to do anything.

I didn't want all the updates so I disabled the Win 10 Home edition updates process, so it wasn't updating. It would just freeze for a few seconds a few times a day. I did the advanced install and chose no for all the feedback to MS and other bells and whistles. I have a new HP slimline PC desktop machine with a very slow 1.4GHZ AMD processor and 16GB of RAM, so maybe that had something to do with it. When I lost my New BLue FX plugin license for Premiere Pro CS6, I decided to roll back to 8.1. I know most people have good results with Win 10, but I have no problems with Win 8.1 64 bit. I'm also still running a 9 year old HP laptop with Win XP SP2, which also has no problems for web browsing, email, etc. Since I don't want any of the bells or whistles of Win 10, I see no need to use it.

Always your choice, but that is a user issue, not a Windows 10 issue.

Most of the Windows 10 problems we see reported on this website are self inflicted user problems. Unfortunately many people present them as Microsoft or other software problems when it has much more to do with liveware faults than hardware or software faults.

At least you seem to understand your choices and why you made them.

That is only true for the home version, consistent with the fact that at that level most users are complacent about taking care of their updates. In fact many of them never pay any attention to patches for relatively dangerous events. Those people are primarily lardheads.

A savvy PC/Windows user would use the Pro version, where the updates are not mandated and locked in. If you want control, use the proper product for control and safety.

The mandated updates on the Home Version are there to protect idiots. Not savvy users.

How come this is not more obvious to supposedly smart computer users. ?????

Totally agree and thank you for validating my earlier comment that said the same thing.

A computer tech recently told me that there is still DOS in Windows 10. I thought it was long gone.

The command line interface is still there.

The name calling "lard heads" seems a bit harsh. We are all ignorant, just on different subjects. I thought this is a photography forum--not geeks-r-us.

Beware of Windows 10 is right. Windows 10 is a complete mess. I have returned to Windows 7 as Windows 10 is very restrictive. For one, the start menu is a joke and not as configurable as on Windows 7 but the final nail in Windows 10's coffin for me was the inability to control updates. You are required to accept whatever Microsoft wants to send your way and you have no way to stop it, I don't think so ........
I might look differently on Windows 10 if they allow me to decide what updates I will accept like Windows 7 does but until then I want nothing to do with Windows 10 and will stay with Windows 7.

Most people never take time to even check for updates, much less install them. So, when they come to Win 10, they have issues. Updates are important. Every single one of them should be applied. It's what keeps things running cleanly and keeps the machine protected.

Like you, I didn't much care for the new Win 10 paradigm for updates, because I like to install them when I want to. However, I've found that in Win 10, it doesn't "check" for updates like previous versions did. Now, when I do my daily check for updates, I find that Windows has not checked most of the time. I simply have it check and if it finds them, I install them.

The end result is pretty much the same as it was.

And from the command line as administrator you can start up the power shell which allows you to do anything you want on your OS including stopping or starting updates on the Home edition. Not advertised, but very much there on every version of windows.
