I updated two of my PCs a week ago, and have no major issues so far.

Beware of Windows 10 is right. Windows 10 is a complete mess. I have returned to Windows 7 as Windows 10 is very restrictive. For one, the start menu is a joke and not as configurable as on Windows 7 but the final nail in Windows 10's coffin for me was the inability to control updates. You are required to accept whatever Microsoft wants to send your way and you have no way to stop it, I don't think so ........
I might look differently on Windows 10 if they allow me to decide what updates I will accept like Windows 7 does but until then I want nothing to do with Windows 10 and will stay with Windows 7.

If you install the pro version you can control everything. The home version is for the clueless who can't get out of their own way.

After my laptop fried I have today taken delivery of a Lenovo 64bit laptop pre-loaded with Win10 by the manufacturer. As I have an existing Avast subscription (Internet security) I installed it to the new computer. At the end of the installation Avast warned me that there was a conflicting prog (Widows Defender) and recommends un-installing Windows Defender.
I think Microsoft should publish more info about what they are providing - how do I know which AV is best - although I think I am getting more with Avast. I also have Avasts clean up app.

You are wasting your money with Avast. Use Defender and Malwarebytes and you will be protected under normal use. If you go to bad places then no AV software will protect you.

Kind of subjective as to what are "bad places" don't you think? As to AV, windows security essentials missed so much, I have used Avast free for years and never had an issue. Many of the expensive AV programs (Norton for example) slow down systems so much you might be as well of with a virus, lol. If defender is anything like essentials it must be made for folks who use IE as their browser I can't imagine who still does that.

Big problem with 10. First it was just cc saying my trial period had ended. Fixed it twice. Then third time Adobe took control remotely. After a restart with them in controls. Just a black screen with oversize icons. No task bar. Finally got it sort of working. Then with Microsoft "help" at level one and then after a week delay with level two "help" we reverted to win 7. It failed. Win 7 finally finally installed, but with all my files gone. Nightmare. Getting my photos back from carbonite. Do also have an exterior drive with most everything. 😓😡😠😟😞

Adobe CC was doing the same thing in Win 7 and Win 8.1, it wasn't Win 10 that did it. I had to get with Adobe to have it corrected twice on Win 7.
Most of these problems people keep complaining about seem to be someone else's program not working with Win 10. And how much lead time did they have to be ready for it????

Win 10 Pro lets you control updates, I have two machines on Win 10 Pro, and two on Win 10 Home. The laptop on Win 10 Home will be upgraded to Win 10 Pro when I get around to it. Our son's desktop will not, he is special needs, plays games and runs train simulators, is restricted in his access to the net and I keep the wifi device in my desk. I don't want him to have more control. Though I may upgrade him to Pro just because it will make it easier for me when I do regular cleanups and maintainance on his machine. He tends to get bored and click on anything and everything that comes up. Plus his reading vocabulary is less than 100 words so he doesn't have a clue what he is doing in programs he hasn't got memorized.

Oh, I also have Clasic Shell on all four machines and have it set to the Win 7 option for its look and behavior.

I downloaded Windows 10 to my desktop and found that Lightroom barely worked afterwards. Nothing but fits and starts and long delays. So I reverted back to Windows 7, which you can do easily thanks to Microsoft in Windows 10, and Lightroom rocked again. Anybody else have this kind of experience with Lightroom or Photoshop? Is Windows 10 really this bad for photography work or is it just my computer?

I have Win 10 on three of my four computers. The two with Photoshop have not problems with PS. In fact I've had ZERO problems with anything except that Acer decided not to upgrade the wifi drivers on my four-year old Acer Aspire. My even older Vaio had no problems. My HP laptop is fine as is my desktop.

I love Windows 10. It runs well and every program I've tried has worked (And I have a lot of odd software.) This has been the easiest, most completely transparent upgrade I've ever experienced.

My conclusion would be that there is something perculiar about your computer--as there was with my Acer. (Acer lost my business on this. Four years to orphan a computer is not right. But that is Acer, not Microsoft.) My ex has an eight year old desktop and I am helping her buy a new machine. She's eligible for the Win 10 upgrade, but her machine is slow to run anything already.

I've updated 3 machines to Win10, 2 of which have my CC software installed. The only issue I've encountered was that I had to reconfigure the speakers on my notebook. Took a couple of minutes.

Other than that, I believe Win 10 to be the best version of the OS ever, and I've used them all since the days of DOS (remember that?). I am enamored with it.

DOS??? Oh that was the one that came after CP/M.

There nothing wrong with Windows 10 I believe most of these so called problems are caused by old legacy programs writen for DOS or win 95. Come on people buy a new computer. With all your cameras you need a new personal confuser!!

Remember Scott McNealy's quote from the 90s: "You have no privacy any more, get over it!"

I'm not blaming Microsoft for creating the issue, but they have very deliberately set the intrusive and invasive capabilities in Windows 10 to on by default and it takes more effort and skill than many will take or possess to shut them down.

That is only true for the home version, consistent with the fact that at that level most users are complacent about taking care of their updates. In fact many of them never pay any attention to patches for relatively dangerous events. Those people are primarily lardheads.

A savvy PC/Windows user would use the Pro version, where the updates are not mandated and locked in. If you want control, use the proper product for control and safety.

The mandated updates on the Home Version are there to protect idiots. Not savvy users.

How come this is not more obvious to supposedly smart computer users. ?????

Yes, and the story goes that when the fellow who wrote CP/M (Control Program/Machine) was supposed to be in his office to meet and sign papers with IBM to select his OS, he forgot the meeting, as he was enthralled with his recent General Aviation license and was out flying. His wife was in the office when IBM suits showed up.

They left and subsequently met with Bill Gates and hammered out a deal for DOS purchased from Gates. (Story has it Gates did not own or write DOS, but he deposited the front money from IBM in his bank and drove across Seattle to buy DOS from the actual author)

The CP/M author eventually wrote the DOS SHELL called DR DOS which ran over DOS and made it run better.

Yes, it's true that CP/M was actually a better OS than DOS, but life is funny. The author of CP/M and DR Dos did quite well in his own right.

There are apparently workarounds for the home version also. Haven't had time to test them yet, but not highly motivated to do so, since I generally think keeping things up to date is a good thing. You can still turn off most of the potentially problematic stuff with the home version.

It isn't really an issue if you are paying attention instead of crossing the street or driving while texting, or some other Darwinish behavior pattern...

Wasn't the original DOS called QDOS? Quick and Dirty Operating System before it became MS-DOS....

Which also lends more support to the principle that success is far from guaranteed to the best technology, there are so many market factors that come into play...

I installed Win10 64 bit and it lost the registration for my New Blue Effects plugins on Premiere Pro, bringing back the pre registration banner across the video frames. I also noticed some unexplained freezing on my PC during the few days I ran Win 10. I rolled back to Win 8.1 and plan to stay there. The roll back was not smooth, it froze. I took a chance and pulled the power plug for 5 seconds after 4 hours, and then the roll back finished off in another 20 minutes.
