Since I saw the Picture of the Studebaker that Bluescreek Put on this morning 8/23 I decided to put a few pictures on... I loved the studebakers and thought/think that they are/were to most overlooked cars ever made in the usa....

Enjoy the pictures...

Mike

The 1958 Commander was fast as greased lightning...

The 1960 Lark was a flat head 6cyls, got good milage and extremely reliable and comfortable.

The 56 Golden Hawk was beautiful and Fast, have driven one, but never owned one..

The AVANTI could fit in with any "Sports" car of TODAY and besides that it didn't/won't Rust..

I owned one just like this in 1958

Bought one just like this new in 1960

My father loved these cars. He had a Lark, a commander and best of all he had a GT Hawk and I got to drive it.

I would guess a '63
The Studebaker Avanti was a personal luxury coupe built by the Studebaker Corporation between June 1962 and December 1963. Studebaker itself referred to the Avanti as "America's Only 4 Passenger High-Performance Personal Car!" in its sales literature

There were 4 versions of the Avanti, R1-R4 with the R4 being a full blown race car. The Avanti broke many records at the Bonneville test track. I believe that the Avanti was the first production car to have disk breaks. The Avanti was very advanced for the time it was produced.

They made some really good looking cars. It seems they were years ahead of their time. Thanks for sharing some neat photos.

I always thought the 1954 Studebaker 2 door coupe was perhaps the most beautiful car of the mid twentieth century.

#1 is one fine looking car even by today's standards. Would love to own one. Sometimes the best does not succeed, it seems a tragedy. My bother-in-law owns a 49 not sure of the model but would love own it and it still runs.

venturer9, these are nice pictures of Studebakers and brings back some great memories of my high school days when I owned a 1952 Studebaker coupe. It was already old when I bought it, but it was still reliable transportation. After I graduated from high school and joined the Marines, I sold it. I really loved that old car.

Thanks for posting these beautiful pictures. Tejaswrangler :)

Studebaker had some interesting cars. Raymond Lowey created some bold designs. The Avanti came too late to save the company. When the engine started, it started with a Bang! Great sound. My family had a '52 Champion at one time. A real "beauty," battleship gray. It burned oil like a home heating system. The engine had to be rebuilt in VA before returning home to NY. The car broke down on the way home. Yeah, lots of laughs with that one.

Before cars, Studebaker made covered wagons.

I think the Avanti was a "head turner" back then, and is still a "head turner" today. Thanks.

That first picture of the '55 is about the prettiest of those I ever saw;I think because of the paint & wheels. We owned a Lark Convertible just like the one in the 2nd pic,but ours had the light colored top & beige interior & was a V-8. Pretty sure the Avanti in the last pic is a '64. We also owned a '55 Commander station wagon which seems to be a fairly rare model. Always wanted a Hawk, but never owned one. Thanks for the great pictures!

Always liked these cars, and if they were around today I would be driving one, instead of Chevy's.

I think the R-2 Avanti was the only supercharged one and the fastest. Mikedidi46, these cars are still around if you want one check Hemmings Motor News. I had a 49 Willys Jeepster with a Stude 356 V-8. Running stock 538 rear gears it would top out about 70, but fun at stoplight races.
