Easy to see why it is a favorite, Judy. The red gives the storm a fierce mood.

An it does bring to mind"Night Music". Beautiful!

Love this topic too. Sorry to be using archives, but that is the best I can do right now.
Whatever camera you used, that is a beautiful memory of your trip.

Very nice examples. I only have one camera right now the Canon SX50 which does not take the greatest night shots.
This is one I took from the balcony of our hotel in Honolulu.

Wow, Fred Ann, you don't need a special mode for your camera. These are beautiful. I like your trucks, like night monsters ready to pounce. The drummer is a great abstract. Good job!
Thank you. I think this topic will prove to be fascinating!

Night photography for me is anything photographed once the sun is below the horizon and prior to its peaking over the horizon the next morning. It will be fun to see the various ways you interpret the title and apply it to your images. Try to include some tip that will help others in their night photography in your comments, if possible. I would appreciate your help with comments. You see so much that I might miss and I do have a full week so may not get to everyone's great images.
Do not let night photography frighten you. Sometimes, I just try a setting and see how it works and then adjust. It really isn't difficult. HAVE FUN!

Great idea. Here's a few from Door County, Wi.
Water and sunset mixed together.
The anchored boats scene was purposely taken out-of-focus.
Both are beautiful. The out of focus boats make it dreamy and soft. The sky after sunset is often more beautiful than at sunset. Nice work.

Look for light colored trees. They can be very dramatic against the night sky. I took this one earlier this spring before it budded out. A street light nearby helped light it. If you want the bark to be white, adjust the temperature on your camera or in post processing. You can also change the image to black and white.
The pier on the Mississippi River was taken just after sunset (p, 1) and then again later. I liked both, they are just different captures of a scene which creates different moods and focal points.

I took the original of this yesterday morning in the fog. I liked it a lot, but it was a bit "soft". So, not to be discouraged I decided to make it an abstract that appeared to be at night.
Awesome way to start E... love the set.
