Most of the time a refurbished camera has fewer than 500 clicks. They are cameras that are at camera shows and expositions around the country. Some of them might have only 2 or 3 clicks.
Not all the times. I bought my D810 from Adorama as a factory referb and it had 2200. It looked new and was their last one priced at $2350 so I kept it. Now there are no referbed D810's available at that price and I'm sure I won't out shoot the shutter anyway. One more thing, Adorama gives a one year warranty with referbs its sells, rather than a 90 day at Nikon.

You might want to double check that 1 year warranty. Don't think it applies unless you purchase an extended policy...but I may be wrong.
I have purchased a couple of lenses from KEH and had outstanding success with them. And as soon as I get my money saved up, I plan on purchasing a couple more items.
What is the opinion of purchasing a pre-owned Nikon camera from Nikon or KEH?
All of my current equipment was purchased refurbished, either from the Nikon Store or Cameta. As long as the service was done by the factory, you are good to go. Choose from who has the stuff that you want in stock and go from there.
A box sticker of "Refurbished" can only be issued by the manufacturer. As an example, a Refurbished Nikon camera means that Nikon actually handled the camera (or lens or speedlight) and certifies it as basically "good as new". Quite often, Refurbs ARE new, but previously sold, then returned to Nikon. Once sold, the camera cannot be legally re-sold as "new". Hence Refurbished. The accompanying warranty is from Nikon. Returned store floor examples fall into the same category.
A retailer can only re-sell a camera as used, no matter how new or little used, but cannot call it "Refurbished" without documentation from manufacturer. Quite often a store will provide their own version of "warranty", matching the same conditions of manufacturer's warranty if new.

Sorry, but unethical dealers have been known to slap a "Refurbished" label on a box containing either used or counterfeit goods.
The only way to be safe is to purchase refurbished goods from either the manufacturer or a factory authorized reseller.
