Any camera I've ever used, including my iPhone, that does not have an optical viewfinder. It just don't seem real holding at arms length. And we all know that "It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that certain je ne sais quoi."

In Vietnam I bought a SLR with a threaded lens mount. If i recall it was a Honeywell Pentax. Great Camera. But oh the agony of a screw mount.

I have a very bad case of equipment lust. In the odd film days I had Leica R kit. Leica M. Minolta x 700, contax rts. Hasselblad. Mamiya rb 67 + C330. Minolta autoflex. Graflex xlsw. Plus a bevy of large format gear.

The two cameras that I hated were the olympus pen E pl1 and the Mamiya 6 rangefinder.

Strange... I have the following model, the A1400, and its image quality is superior to any other pocket camera I've ever owned. Many images I've posted here came from that very camera. However, the trick is to take it off auto-ISO and set it to a fixed low ISO to achieve good image quality with every shot.

It was several years ago, but you're right. I didn't use auto iso, but the trouble did come at higher iso's. It was OK in good light and at close flash distances, but once the iso went up in low light or at longer flash distances it got pretty bad. As I remember, my big problem with it was that the flash was only usable at close range. To be fair that still is a problem common to most P&S's. I guess it's not fair to compare it to my current compact camera, a Nikon P7800. Looking back it probably wasn't any worse than my Nikon P50 P&S.

Looking at your camera choices, it seems we share a similar philosophy: just because a camera is compact, doesn't mean it shouldn't come with a viewfinder!

I certainly agree - the A1300/A1400 isn't a great camera for low light situations.

Leica M2. Beautiful camera, but too many false film loads. Sold it after two weeks (for $100 more than I paid) and have lived happily ever after with the vastly superior loading, handling and features of the Leica M5, the one M to rule them all.

I was surprised to see a few people mention that they also had a Praktica camera and that theirs worked fine. In a way I'm glad I got a lemon and switched over to the Nikon line. It saved me many hours of not having to spend time with the screw mount ;-)

Thanks for taking my comments as intended to be somewhat funny. And shoot many pictures in Ohio or elsewhere with whatever equipment that suits you best.

My first digital camera was a Canon G2. I had been using a Nikon N8008 to shoot slides and scanning them to process on a computer. The shutter lag nearly drove me crazy. It took me over a year to tame that sucker so I could get decent pictures out of it. In honesty it was me, not the camera, that was ugly. As soon as the D100 came out I was back on familiar ground and much happier.

Did you try a tripod? Did you try to lay of the booze for a spell? How about drugs, legal and otherwise? Taking a deep breath and holding it while gently pushing the shutter button helped me with an sx40hs. Some of the best pictures ever came right out of that model.

You are RUDE!

I have been enjoying the 'most beautiful camera' thread here and it got me thinking about my first camera. A total lemon. In the late 60's I had saved up my paper route money and bought a Praktica. The shutter never worked right, everything was overexposed and after a month the camera store gave me a full refund after seeing me in there week after week. One of the employees had taken a liking to me and he told me about a used Nikon F that had come back from Vietnam and was pretty banged up. The prism was broken and a local camera repair man had it in his shop fixing it up and put a beat up FTn head from another abused camera on it. Cosmetically, my F was UGLY! But it worked perfectly and came with a 50mm f/2 lens. I went from a beautiful, shiny new Praktica that never worked right to a travel worn, pieced together old workhorse. I consider that Nikon F as my first real camera, I only got a few properly exposed pictures with that Praktica.

I bought a nice clean looking Soviet FED at a camera swap (boot sale). Some were good; some were bad. Quality assurance was not a company priority. It was the only camera I have ever thrown in the garbage!

I wouldn't call it my most hated camera, but I would call it my most ugly camera, which by the way was my first digital camera.

since 1957, I've never hated a camera, just liked some less than others. my least favorite today is the Sony h 400. with my semi numb index finger it's difficult tripping the shutter. the auto focus hunts like hell. you can't manually focus it. I hold on to it because I like the 63x when I do get it to work.

Mine was also from the Vietnam era and it was my Canon FTQL. it wasn't pretty, and it was worn out, but it took great photo's. I guess since it was my 1st SLR, is the reason I have stayed with Canon.
