I have a Sirui PH-20 tripod head that I use for my Canon 500mm lens. I use the plates that came with the head, but last time in Yellowstone, a photographer had an extended plate that gave his lens more stablilty by having a longer surface area. Lucky him..his friend had made it for him.
Any ideas on where I would get a longer plate. Have not seen any on the obvious sites. Thank you.

You might consider sending Herschel a PM. He works for B&H and will probably have or can get an answer for you.

Only ones I have seen. From China, so shipping takes awhile... Look further down in this listing for different lengths & lens suitable for...

Do you really think he wants to bothered by people who are looking for photographic products to buy? :D

There are a couple of ways to do this. You can buy a whole new foot for the lens from RRS, B&H and etc, Or you can purchase an adapter plate (long) for your lens, How would a longer plate on your gimbal head give you more stability? If you balance out the lens on the gimbal the only thing that may need to be longer would be the foot on your lens, depending on if you are using an extender or not.

If he wasn't interested, I think he would find another line of work or retire.

I agree rjay. They look like a very good design at a very attractive price. The website indicates the older versions are available at an even better price while they last.

After looking at the older versions, I think I'd spend the extra bucks & go with the ProPlate. B&H carries it. If you order 2, it would qualify for their free expedited shipping.

The link I supplied is likely the most economical alternative. While I don't buy much from China, something like this should be just fine...

Didn't see any long plates in the "accessories" section, but they did have good prices on standard size QR plates...

EDIT: saw the longer plates, but not much of a selection when it comes to lengths...Really good prices on the older styles...

I guess it depends how much you want to spend....

Have you tried: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=arca+swiss+plate

With Amazon Prime you can have some within a couple of days and you don't have to spend a fortune if you don't wish to. The Neewer stuff is generally OK quality and a good price.

B&H also has a range of less expensive plates as well as the real high end stuff...

The quick release clamp is the only point of contact. If your lens is out of balance with the plate you have now, then a longer plate might help a little. When you loosen the knob does the lens dip down/up of you take your hands off the camera? If it does, then a longer plate or a replacement foot might help. Wimberley, Really Right Stuff, Kirk and others make plates and replacement feet.

Brown works. What happy drivers bringing happiness!

Lately, though, some of my stuff has been coming via medium size white truck.

I have the PU-20 plate and needed an extended plate. I found what I needed on http://www.argraph.com. They're a wholesale site, but you'll find what you need there and then you can order from B&H. Hope that helps.
