I found him annoying, arrogant and a few times giving wrong advice in some of his videos.

Jason Polin (Fro) will be the first to admit that he likes to have fun, but he firmly believes that running a business must be done in a businesslike manner. His language is a bit rough, but his interviews are superb and his reviews are fair and well-rounded. The hair is his trademark.

Actually, his name is Jared, and he worked at Allen's Photo just outside of Philadelphia. He has done some photo reviews from store but he is not an owner, just a former employee. For the past several years he has provided instructional You Tube videos. Whether you like him or not, he can be entertaining and helpful to those starting out in photography.

Anyone know where Fro is from, does he own a photo store, work at one or just a internet photo guy, for lack of a better term. Thanks p.s. i dig his hair

Apparently, he's online only. The hair and the attitude are just part of his act. I bet he regrets both by now. His 'fro seems to be getting thin, and he's wearing glasses now. Time for a new image.

He knows what he's talking about, and he does have good info, but I don't like watching him. When I was at the photo show at Javits in NYC last year, I saw him. He was just walking down the aisle with one of his RAW shirts on. As he has said, he is "vertically challenged."

Sorry Jared is arrogant and he likes to bash other well known photographers. This isn't a sign of professionalism. Any doubts? Google him and Ken Rockwell.

his problem with Rockwell is that Rockwell gives reviews of equipment, never finds something he doesn't like and always has a link to purchase where Rockwell makes money from the sale. Fro will tell you if it's good or not and if you like it go find it somewhere.

Anyone else other than Ken Rockwell?

Personally I see ken rockwell as a reassuring icon for the average guy or gal with a camera, who's interest in photography doesn't extend much beyond setting the camera in auto and turning it on. That is probably the majority of photographers to be fair. Well maybe I should say people with camera's which is most people.

I guess if you asked the average guy about the exposure triangle they would come up empty, they don't know and don't want to know.

Once you step outside that group that ken guides and start to want to do more and think about what you're doing then you tend to move away from ken's advice.

So as I said who else, other than Ken Rockwell? To be fair Fro probably doesn't know it all either but probably can teach a thing or two.

It's not who here blackest. When you're in of position of power, and you continue to make flaming statements about someone, it shows you lack the ability to be eloquent & diminishes your character.

Politicians do the same thing and personally I find it unacceptable.

If you need another name the Greg Cazillo fiasco soured me. For the record, I'm not a Ken Rockwell supporter. I use to follow Jared but after about 20 of his shows I saw a different person and moved on.

From what I can tell from the net, and thats been limited "Some results may have been removed under data protection law in Europe." They seem to have been friends until fro fired him. It seems a lot of people think that was a mistake.

Fro has a big ego, seems to be the general consensus, and a bit weak on the technical side. I'll bear that in mind if I decide to take a look at his site further.

Jared Polin, aka Fro, is a great person. From what I've found out, he did alot a portraits at first then went to sports.

He started is video business just like most other photographers(?) have done to make a living and to become more known.

I personally don't care for his 70's hair style but that's his thing. If you look at many others, that too have something that sets them apart.

-$hyte or any other spelling still leaves us with hyperbole filled emptiness. An hour of Fro contains less than 3 minutes worth of useful information. Quite wasting my time with him a year ago.

Ah, the love or hate relationship! Seems that Rockwell and Polin have their followers and haters. I have always gather something from each and others too. Yes, his interview with Scott Kelby was one of his best, in my opinion. If you shoot RAW and RAW only, the Fro is the man to listen too. He despises everything else. I personally don't enjoy when he bashes others and that shows his weakness. There are many on youtube that have great videos. I enjoy Matt Granger, the Nikon Guy, now called Get Your Gear Out.

I always seek a concensus from a variety of online reviewers and take each reviewers information with a grain of salt. Over time you begin to understand their individual preferences and prejudices, and which review sites and reviewers seem consistent with your own point of view. Even Ken Rockwell, for all his inconsistencies and questionable opinions, has a lot of useful information. You just need to be knowledgeable enough to know which info to keep and which to ignore. That's not easy, especially for newbies and often the not so newbie. That's why you'll often see the personal opinions of online reviewers presented here as absolute fact which often leads to nasty debate.
