I bought an old film camera, not for the camera but to get the lens. so what if I have to focus and set aperture manually , the lenses work great and only cost me $10.00 not $400 and I put the camera on the shelf , looks great there.

Ok. Too bad no one can come up with something like the LTM-M mount adapter. Probably has to do with flange distance or something along those lines

Could just be related to that, I think! :)

Holly crap Peter, are you saying that, that gold plated, diamond encrusted iPhone Lindsay Lohan gave me for letting her hide in my trunk so she wouldn't have to go to jail, might actually be worth something?!?!
SS

Possibly, and the photos you got of Lindsay in your trunks might be worth a whole lot more! I could see syndication here, or at least an out of court settlement!

On the other hand, could you deal with the shame and loss of reputation?

Does anyone think film cameras will someday be collectibles? Someday is now! Try googling "Tucson Camera COLLECTORS Club"

I'd certainly like to find someone who'd pay me a lot of money for a couple of Nikon F4s.

Put one of these on eBay for my son. Couldn't get enough for it to satisfy him. He said he'd take it to Japan where he'd get considerably more for it. He did. So all you have to do is take a trip to Japan.

P.S. I sold a 1970 needle capture range-finder Olympus recently for more than I paid for it. Also sold 2 or 3 other cameras on eBay for enough to justify the effort (Kodak vest pocket from 1918, Zenobia from 60 years ago, etc.). There are indeed collectors out there!

Quite a number of early film cameras are already getting collectable; I think one of the original Leicas recently sold for millions?

After all if people spend money on old kids toys, why not cameras?

Isn't the glass inferior to what is being produced today? Why would you want to compromise the quality of the "new improved" digital format? Or I am I wrong?

Just check on eBay to see what's going on with film cameras. I sold an Alpa 4b with the Macro Switar Lens a couple of years ago for $1200 - he wanted the lens, not necessarily the camera.

The only film cameras that will be collectable in the future are the ones that were rare and expensive when they were new or the ones with unique or special features. The Leicas, Rolleiflexes, Exactas, and the like for sure. Some early Nikons and Canon professional models perhaps and maybe even an Olympus or Hasselblad. The main idea is, if they were very expensive then they will hold their value now. Kodak, Ansco, and Pentax made far too many cameras and sold them at so low a price that the market was flooded with them and thousands still survive.

Being collectible depends on many things. Two of the most important are quality of the item and number of units made. I have an old Kodak fold-out camera from the early 1900's. They made thousands of them, so they're not worth much. A Rolleiflex from the 1950's would be worth much more.

I've bought several old cameras on ebay to use in the construction of a lamp or two. I didn't pay more than $10 for any of them, and some are in working condition.
