I have a Nikon D90 with a Sigma 120-400 lens. I like to do Birds in Flight and wildlife. I would like some suggestions on Gimbal heads.
I would like a light one. I have a Induro tripod. Thanks You! Michelle

I use the Jobu Design Jr. Gimbal head on a manfroto tripod with the D90 and 120-400 also. With the grip attached it may limit the upward tilt.
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=905990&Q=&is=REG&A=detailsIt is smaller and lighter than a full size head but is silky smooth. I also use it with the D3 and D800 with a grip attached without problems.
I like it so much I dont use any other head anymore. I even use it on
my Macro setup with a focusing rail, as seen in the photos, I removed my focusing rail to show your camera/lens on this mount. Please note that I have changed the wedge camera mount on this gimbal to a longer one for other applications. The stock one actually works better for this camera/lens combo.
Thank you very much. I went to their site and was impressed.
I am going to order the Nest Gimbal tomorrow. Are you using the plate that came with the Gimbal or did you order the lighter plate.
Thanks again!
Thank you very much for your suggestion. I will order one tomorrow. Did you use the plate that came with the Gimbal or did you order the lighter plate. Thanks again. Have a nice evening.

Hi,
You might find that the Acratech Long Lens head does the job. I use this with a 300mm f2.8 and find it very good. Its a lot lighter , smaller and less expensive than a Gimbal head. There is a demo. video on their website.
Get in touch with MTShooter. Several of us have purchased the NEST Gimbal head he sells and have not been disappointed. Gary

I have an Induro tripod (213CT) and just purchased a Nest Gimbal Head from Carter's Camera Cottage. Suggest you also get a short Induro center column (about $45 from B&H) to leave attached, dedicated to the Nest head. Makes switching between the Gimbal and Ball heads on the same tripod quick and easy.
Now, I don't have much experience using the Nest and my setup yet but the price and build quality are very good. I got the Nest for use primarily with a new Sigma 150-600 mm Sport that is on order and expected in early February. I have done a few shoots of grandsons baseball games with an older vintage Nikkor 80-400 mm that was given to me well used just to get some practice using the Nest with a heavier camera/lens setup.
An email or call to MT Shooter would gain you some sound advice.

Here's some meat and potatoes to look at while you wait the two days it will take for USPS Priority Mail to deliver your new Gimbal Head. Because Carter ships fast.
http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-258910-1.htmlYou are gonna love using your new Nest Head!
Mine totally changed the game for me. Much better shots overall.
Also, you might notice how I mounted my lens/camera with the arm towards the right.....
It gives me full access with my left hand to adjust my focal length to zoom in/out. ;)

SonnyE, not only does Carter ship fast he seems to make other shippers look like fools. No matter what he has sent to me it gets here more quickly than any other shippers. There must be direct shipping lines from Sherwood MT. to Hog members! Best service in the business.
Hi Sonny,
Did you order the Nest Gimbal with the plate that came with it or did you order the lighter 6" plate for $45?
Thank you so much for all your help with this.

Michelle, SonnyE is out tending the cows. He asked me to sub for him. Impossible!! The plate that comes with the Nest is 6" long. The "extra" plate is actually that same 6" plate that is standard. It is sort of misleading. Great piece of equipment.
