I have just about the same kit lenses and have only had them on my 3200 once each and have never been on my 7100. Once I broke down and purchased a prime lens, the difference was night and day. I primarily shoot macro, but my macro lenses also work very well for many other types of photography. I am very quickly becoming a Sigma fan boy. Also, whatever you decide on, I suggest not getting DX lenses, as you one day may want to get a FF camera. I might also suggest considering prime lenses.

Your kit lenses will most likely leave you wanting....

It sounds like you are doing your homework and that would be my biggest recommendation.

I've only started my photography about a year ago but, most of the images on my flickr page are taken with the 7100 and Sigma lenses. They make even a newbie like me look good  :-)

I have never bought a Sigma lens but I have heard and read some good reports on their lenses. I am checking into Sigma and Tamron lenses as real possibilities.

Tokina is another up and coming manufacturer too.

The D610 from all I've heard is a great camera. Waiting is very hard to do, at least for me it is.

I have heard of Tokina too and just made a note to include them in my quest for additional lenses. I'd love to have a good camera store where I live, but they all closed down a few years back.

The tamron 24-70/2.8 and tokina 100/2.8 macro were the best leses for my 7100.

James, I have 13 lenses, 7 of them are Sigma, and the rest Nikon. Two of the Sigma's are "Art Series" lenses, the 18-35mm 1.8 is an incredibly sharp lens, and has quite a reputation. The Sigma 70-200 2.8 does all my "in flight" aircraft shots. I have become a fan after years of using them. I also have the new 24-105 f4 DG that I use on my DF. You will not go wrong using these. Tamron and Tokina also have some lenses that are well worth the time it takes to check them out.

Phil

Back in July I sought advice here about where to buy a new camera and have followed advice given on which cameras would make be a good choice for people asking. I am very happy to say I finally ordered a Nikon D7100 from B&H Photo and received an email saying it shipped and is on its way. It should fill all my needs for a good while and I can hardly wait to get started working with it. So thanks again for all the great advice and help.

Congratulations! You'll love it. Just take it slow and easy.

This is a great video.

As long as you keep in mind the old saying about opinions, and the fact that we ALL have one, this blog is a great source of information. Have fun with your new camera!

The advice here is to stay away from ads and just have a blast making and taking pictures with your new camera and gear.

Congratulations. This is a great camera, in fact one of, if not the, best crop sensor camera available today. Enjoy it - I am sure the wait for it will be worth it.
