Back in July I sought advice here about where to buy a new camera and have followed advice given on which cameras would make be a good choice for people asking. I am very happy to say I finally ordered a Nikon D7100 from B&H Photo and received an email saying it shipped and is on its way. It should fill all my needs for a good while and I can hardly wait to get started working with it. So thanks again for all the great advice and help.

Got one love it, and you will too. Take a look at David Busch's instruction book. Worth every penny after spending a few on that new camera.

I have no doubt you are going to love this camera for a good long time. I have a D800e and would not want to have to decide between my D7100 or the 800 if I could have only one. Yeah, it's that nice

Also, as Oldtigger said, excellent glass is critical to realize the full potential of what the 7100 is capable of.

The waiting is always the hardest part.
Congratulations and Enjoy! ;-)

I will definitely check it out. I think I can get it at Amazon.

So far I only have 3 lens:

AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G
AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR
AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED

I got the zoom lenses as part of a kit, and bought the 35mm later.

I am starting again getting funds together to look into additional lenses. I haven't decide exactly which ones I want to get for sure. I plan to do some portrait and landscape shooting. I would like to try some wildlife as well. I follow the various threads here when people ask advice on what lenses to get and here opinions on different ones. I would rather take the time to get the money together for some good glass instead of getting in a rush and buying lower quality.

They also have a field guide version of that book, which is very good and much easier to carry. The regular book is a two hander :D I have had the D7100 since they first came out, also have a full frame but would not ever think of giving up the D7100. Also I agree with an earlier post, it's a fantastic camera and needs a fantastic lens. Do your home work! The less expensive lenses will deliver wonderful pictures, but the higher quality lenses will blow your mind. Have fun!

Phil

PS Your 35mm 1.8 is a great start!

I know what you mean. When I was much younger back in the late 60's and early 70's I made the mistake of getting in a hurry to but lenses for my Pentax, and Mamiya, and wasted money on cheap. I would have been better off with fewer lenses but much better quality.

I have just about the same kit lenses and have only had them on my 3200 once each and have never been on my 7100. Once I broke down and purchased a prime lens, the difference was night and day. I primarily shoot macro, but my macro lenses also work very well for many other types of photography. I am very quickly becoming a Sigma fan boy. Also, whatever you decide on, I suggest not getting DX lenses, as you one day may want to get a FF camera. I might also suggest considering prime lenses.

Your kit lenses will most likely leave you wanting....

It sounds like you are doing your homework and that would be my biggest recommendation.

I've only started my photography about a year ago but, most of the images on my flickr page are taken with the 7100 and Sigma lenses. They make even a newbie like me look good  :-)

I don't know exactly what to go for next. I know I want to get something like a 70-300 mm eventually. I am not sure with the 35mm already whether or not it would make any sense to look into a 50 mm 1.4 prime too.

What type of photography do you expect to do most?
