B&H is amazing. I recently bought a Nikon 1 kit from them. I also bought a VR 30-110 lens to go with the kit. No VR switch on the 30-110 lens. I used their chat line and had an answer in minutes. (The VR is automatically engaged) B&H Chat is what all chats should be. I have also sent emails to them commending their service. They are always answered by an email thanking me and assuring me my email will be passed around to employees and posted. As an aside. My Nikon 1 pictures are amazing. Very underrated Nikon Camera System.

Agree with all. Love the store, could spend hours there. Visit every time I'm in the city. Just got my new D810 there Sunday. And I also have a Nikon 1 which I use on vacation when I don't want to carry the big boy. Results are excellent.

I recently purchased a cooling stand for my 17" laptop. After waiting for over a week, I called B&H to check on delivery. They said that UPS had delivered it 2 days prior! UPS said it was left by the garage. Not there, not anywhere. B&H promptly shipped another one and filed a claim with UPS. No hassle at all.

I ordered the Tamron 150-600 on the 15th of December and was told it was backordered. I told them I expected it to be backordered and was leaving on vacation the 19th for two weeks. I got an email on the 20th that the lens had shipped. I called B&H to ask them what should I do, since I wasn't going to be home and the item is returned after 10 days. I gave them the address where I planned to be on the date of delivery and the UPS truck delivered it yesterday.
I wrote B&H a personal note and filled out their survey telling them what a great job they did. I was really impressed.

B&H is a top notch retailer and I have never have had a complaint with their service. That said Adorama is every bit as good. I buy equally from both of them. If one store is out of stock I'll go to the other with no ill feelings. I feel that confident with both. Both have great return polices that are more than fair. I bought the wrong lens hood one time. I called the store and told them what I did. The salesman told me which one I should have and sent it right out to me and told me to put the wrong one in the box and send it back. When I received the correct hood there was a prepaid shipping label in the box read to go... Wow I was pleased. Notice I didn't say which store I bought it from, because it has happened with both stores.
If there is a difference between the stores I would say B&H has a better web site. The search engine seems to me to be just better than Adoramas.

I have been working with B&H for over ten years. They simply do it better. Delivery dates are usually right on (except for major weather events like heavy snow)

Never an issue on returns, my purchase are usually big enough for Bill me later.

Had my 1st "bad" experience with B&H today. I purchased a used Gossen Luna Pro light meter, the adapter that uses LR44 batteries, & some of the Wein cells that replace the PX625 batteries. The meter wouldn't function with anything. Got online and did a live chat. By the time I closed my browser, the RMA & return UPS label were in my inbox. Should have the replacement by the end of next week. Typical of B&H customer service. I won't buy from anybody else.

Correction please. You received a bad meter manufactured by Gossen, but had what sounds like great service from B&H.

i am lucky enough to live in new york and go to b and h often enough for my supplies..when I'm in florida they deliver their merchandise so fast that i never worry about getting stuff on time...there is nothing like going into the store itself..they are very informative and let you handle the product ..test it out..and explain whatever questions you have...they are amazing...

Locals HAVE to charge sales tax. It's not a level playing field...
That said, online, B&H has few peers.

Sounds like we are all in agreement - the brick and mortar stores should lock their doors and leave it all to the mail order houses. I had a hobby shop in California back in the 80's. I had a lot of competition from mail order. The radio control flyers, boaters and car people would buy from mail order who would sell the big ticket items for about the same price I was paying for it from my distributor. I would get the small two and three dollar items they needed to complete their projects. After a few years of that I decided I couldn't compete with their prices or product selection so I closed up and got a real job. Of course, then the modellers had to travel 20 or 30 miles to get the small items they needed or mail order them and wait a week or ten days for them to arrive.

Congratulations! There are lots of excellent online sellers. B&H and Adorama are tow of the best.
Agree. Be sure to visit if/when you're in NYC. I remember visiting Adorama when it was a little shop. Had to ring a bell for them to buzz me in the door. :) Back then, 47th Street Photo was one of the big dealers. How times change.
