i have went to Nikons site and looked at them and read some specs {not an expert by any means} but they seem good!

They do seem be a bit short sited. The Nikon 1 system is very big in Europe, not so much here. As a Nikon user, I do wish they would offer a mirrorless alternative to Panasonic, Fuji, Olympus, Sony, etc.
There does not appear to be anything on the horizon.

Very low budget review....Very low...
About a week ago, I got to hold a Olympus with a small lens. I thought it weighed about the same as my 7D with the 17-55 lens. The biggest problem I had is it was hard to hold in my right hand. I'm not a big handed guy. Just, not enough bulk for me to hang onto confidently, without worry of slipping out of my hand. I know, neck strap...

The Nikon 1 system is good for an amateur who wants to downsize. The APS-C and m4/3 mirrorless cameras and lenses aren't that much smaller and lighter than one of the smaller DSLR's and consumer lenses. The 1 inch sensor allows for significantly smaller cameras and lenses. If I were to downsize now I'd get a V3 with a 10-100mm lens and their ultrawide zoom.

The fact that they don't have a more advanced mirrorless system doesn't mean that they don't have plans for one.

Personally, I wanted something away from the limitations of mirror-less (if I'm understanding them correctly).

I wanted Versatunatillity. And big ol lenses. And I'm not opposed to a handful...

I never really considered one, myself.
My eyes got set on a DSLR and well, it's kinda like high beams...
It gets hard to take your eyes off. ;)

A man after my own heart. There's a time and place for everything, but I'm having too much fun in the DSLR world to change at the moment. Still like an optical viewfinder.

My Fuji X100s has an optical finder and it doesn't black out like a DSLR.
(but I'm not going to give up my DSLR any time soon!)

The Canon SX-50 and SX-60 have lots of enthusiastic supporters here, and its sensor is much smaller than a Nikon 1 sensor, so sensor size shouldn't stand in the way of Nikon One being successful.

hey sonny, i am not in the market to replace my d800 or d3200 {well maybe the d3200}.. was interested in something that could fit in my vest pocket when i am out on the bike!!!
before digital i always had a film camera with me.

I've even had a mount to shoot on the road. Worked best with the clutch in at an idle. But I didn't have to stop.
What I saw over the bars was what I was trying to capture.
With my D3300, the lens would likely fall off. :lol:
When I decided to shop for a DSLR, I just never considered a pocket camera. I was trying to move away from that.
But I surely understand your needs.
Have you considered a GoPro? I don't know much about them, but the Grandson and his friends have them. I wonder if stills can be extracted. :?

No. Just went to sleep early, and woke up early.
So rather than lay in bed, wondered into the home orifice. Or my inside man-cave. :lol:
The stuff (video) the kids come up with is pretty awesome. Much is action stuff like at the river being towed, or cliff jumping.
I played around with video capture and trying to extract stills back when El Nino was going on (late 1990's-early 2000's) but was disappointed in the resolution.
I was thinking maybe these new HD cameras might work better.
