Aw come on SS, you're fun to read when you get off your Canon soap box, but there's a big, big problem for folks who can't (or won't) take off their (Canon) blinkers....... you fail to see what's going on around you ! The US market lags far behind Asia and Europe in terms of "mirrorless" understanding and acceptance.

Luckily for you Americans you have Thom Hogan ...... oh, sorry, he's in the Nikon camp so you might not have come across him yet ..... you know, those blinkers, they tend to get in the way ! Yep, he's one of you ! He's about as up-to-date as anyone in the USA regarding mirrorless. Remove your blinkers and start reading, dear chap ...... you got a lot of catchin' up to do !

Yep my Californian friend ...... there's a world outside of northern California, outside of the "good ole US of A", where some mirrorless folks have "matured" far beyond your good self ....... that's 'cos they were prepared to take off their blinkers"!!

Watch out old fella ...... there's horses comin' up on yer right and on yer left ..... and while you're runnin' out of puff they're steamin' and on full throttle ! Blinkers, old boy ...... blinkers!!

As some charming retired old (and possibly immature) Californian, who just a day or so ago called me a troll on this site, said ...... "just sayin'" ...... yeay !!

Enjoy the weekend reading I've left for you ....... cheers from a sunny Saturday morning in the UK !!

A bit rude, but right! Hubris and paradigm shifts killed off Kodak, Agfa, the Swiss watch makers, most of RIM/BlackBerry, and thousands of other businesses. I'm a Canikon user since 1969, but I do look around. The Lumix and Olympus and Sony and Fujifilm offerings are getting very hot.

Thanks, but rude? Not intended in any way ! You're in the US - a teacher, and new to this forum - I'm in a different country - we might talk the same language, but please try to appreciate a touch of English humour - SS gives as much, possibly much more, than he gets, and took even his fellow countrymen for a ride just recently - it's all a sense of "perception". It's the weekend ..... let's have fun...... and learn from each other ...... we're all in the same game !

I *was* being light. Unfortunately, prose alone cannot convey inflection, or a tongue in cheek smile in the inflection. I agree with your previous comment, and I really like British humour, enough to spell it with a u.

There are limits to this medium...

I'm a trainer, not a teacher. Huge difference there.

Happy me that you're "being light" ! As you know, it's us who know how to spell proper !

I used to work for an American corporation, a world-wide business, and I too was a "trainer" with responsibility for Europe. Thing is that I/we always regarded ourselves as teachers. To us there was absolutely no difference, apart from the business world's need NOT to be perceived as teachers - they kinda "look down" on them ! Shame. So,sorry, but have to strongly disagree with you ...... but as I say, it's the weekend, those days have passed for me, and I'm not going to argue.

As the DSLR market falters, what is your strategy for mirrorless?

"The mirrorless market is growing rapidly, thanks to products from manufacturers like Sony. We know that there is a certain body of demand for larger sensors in mirrorless products. Although we already have the 1 inch sensor in the 1 System, we don't want to deny the possibility of future large-sensor mirrorless cameras. So maybe if there is enough demand we may be able to provide another type of mirrorless camera with larger sensors. This is one of the solutions."

Interview at Photokina 2014 with Toshiaki Akagi, Department Manager in Nikon's 1st Designing Department of the Development Center in the Imaging Business Unit.

I have never seen a Nikon being suggested !!
i have went to Nikons site and looked at them and read some specs {not an expert by any means} but they seem good!
i know i will get the Nikon haters, and yes your answers will be read also !! I was just curious!! :?: :?: :?: :?:

I really like my Milon V1 in some ways. For example it may have the worlds best autofocus, the lens selection is good and optical performance is said to be good but the sensor is too small for 2014 state of the art. The images are better than I would expect from a 1 inch sensor but still much closer to P&S than to an APC-S camera. Although it is easy to carry around by hand, it is too big for a shirt pocket.

I like using it but it doesn't fit any real need. Too " in between" I guess. I wish it were not so cute so I wouldn't feel bad about selling it.

Also each body, V1, V2 and V3 is so different from its predessedor not to mention the J series it makes wonder if Nikon isn't as clueless as I am about what it is supposed to be good for. But it sure is cute....

The sensor "too small for 2014 state of the art" is twice the size of the sensor of the Canon SX-50, which many people here at the UHH seem to like. What in particular about the images do you not like?

Much of the time nothing wrong at all. However, there are two aspects I notice -- EV isn't great as my D7100 and I can see fine detail loss when printed at on 8x10 or bgreater. It's actually pretty good for many subjects. As I mentioned AF is a really big plus -- fast and accurate -- in fact I think the AF is the main reason the IQ is as good as it is.

I'm not really negative about it which is why I cannot bring myself to sell it. Had Nikon put an EVF on the V3 I might not be as ambivalent. Meanwhile, I'm trying out a Fuji X-E1. The fuji has greater bulk than the V1 but with a 16-50mm the it weighs about the same. The V1 is rather heavy for its size which suggests to me that Nikon was unclear about their market.

Were Nikon to offer a Mirrorless about the weight and HxW dimensions of the D3300 but less thick and with a removable spacer/adaptor for legacy G & D lenses the completion would be hurting. I'm assuming the EVF and AF would be a scaled up from the V1&2 but retain the performance.

Have you ever tried a Hoodman or similar device to give you functionality similar to what an EVF does?

Reading between the lines, it appears that Nikon may be more into the "mirrorless wars" than the title of this thread would suggest; they may see a market somewhere between the D7100 and point-and-shoot that (for now) would not be threatened by cell phones.

hey sonny, i am not in the market to replace my d800 or d3200 {well maybe the d3200}.. was interested in something that could fit in my vest pocket when i am out on the bike!!!
before digital i always had a film camera with me.

I don't have an Nikon 1, but I am considering buying one to supplement my D810. With the Nikon FT-1 adapter, I can use my FX lenses on the Nikon 1 cameras. The crop factor on the Nikon 1 is 2.7, so I will get some very long lenses with autofocus at no cost in maximum aperture (My 70-200mm becomes 170-540). See this list of compatible Nikkor lenses: http://imaging.nikon.com/lineup/acil/lenses/mount_adapter_ft1/compatibility.htm

The Nikon 1 v3 also has an 18.8mp sensor, a very high maximum shutter speed, fast autofocus, and 20fps with continuous autofocus; 60fps with single point focus, silent (electronic) shutter at 1/16,000sec. Excellent print quality (300ppi) at 17"x12". The EVF is an option I would buy.

And if I don't need the extreme telephoto capability, it will fit in my jacket pocket.

that link covers most all lenses... I wonder how funny that v3 would look with the 150-600mm w/2.0TC
