I am a Canon DSLR guy but I bought a NEX-6, with the super small 16-50z lens and I love it. The image quality and colors are great. It is my walkaround combo but I am not going to invest too much in the system, perhaps the new 18-105/f4 zoom as I still use the Canon for important stuff. I was in the Sony store in Costa Mesa and it was great to see all their bodies and lenses in one place.

I have the same small lens on my Sony a6000, and although I find the image quality and colors good, to me the lens is serviceable but not great. I'm considering getting the Zeiss 16-70 lens which is expensive ($1000) and much larger. Do others think that the difference in image quality will be striking and worth the additional investment?

I think that a lot of us "Moldy Oldies" still do this.

Yeah, but when people talk about all the wonderful things they've done in post processing ...

Actually, that's all well and good but I'd rather my work stands on its own directly out of the camera.

Wouldn't PP be also your own work?

How do the pictures you take stand up to Ansel Adam's? Any examples?

I'd compare mine to The Adams Family rather than Ansel Adams.

Some of you "no post processing" guys might want to watch a short video at the link that follows. It makes the point that today's cameras cannot cover the spread from pure black to pure white. To me that means if you can't get white or black then your colors are not going to be correct either. A lot of that depends on what your use or purpose is for your images. If it doesn't matter then the answer is easy. If it does matter how good your images are then perhaps there's something to consider in what the video shows. Watch the video and then decide for yourself:

I do not post process any of my shots. I've always shot "Chromes" and for better or worse, what I see is what I shot. I'm very old school about that.

Well God Bless Ya!
I couldn't agree more.

I can't say never. But I can say little to none.

Said the man from Olympus...
What does that say about Oly's? :hunf:

(Don't get me wrong. In my younger years I really liked Olympia Beer....)

Well, if Olympus is known for one thing, it is their OOC Jpeg quality.

Have a look here, and guess which of these shots can be matched with OOC settings.

Just kidding.

I have my creative moments when I actually make a good shot.

So when you watched a movie on an old Television set
Did you ever mess with the dials for better sharpness,
contrast, clarity? Or did you just watch it the way it was?

You mean the rabbit ears antenna on top of the BW TV that had 5 or 6 channels in Chicago?

I never knew what a clear picture was until I got into the military.
