Agree...but the OP would rather choose between two least innovative innovators on the market ;-)

If that's the case, this is an over-simplification that I believe to be valid nonetheless: Canon for things that move, sports, acton and video. Nikon for things that sit still, portraits, landscapes and studio work. Both have directly comparable models and similar lens line-up (with Canon having the edge there for autofocus speed and lens speed, as well as selection). Right now, the D800/800E/810 has the lead in sensor technology, but the Canon 5DMkiii makes gorgeous pics (as do the D4S and 1DX if compared). Take your pic... both brands are good.
But having shot extensively with Canon and Olympus, Olympus is in a league of its own (except in shooting sports with that EVF). Its weather sealing, 5-axis IBIS (stabilization), build quality, tilt-touch screen, lens quality, accessories and overall handle-ability is just a cut above. :thumbup: :D
