They are on a parallel body wise, but Canon may just have the edge when it comes to lens choice. Just my thoughts.

That. Question got me here, so which one?

1. Are you 6'2", 250#, with gigantic hands and severe arthritis in your hands - or are you 5'9", 175#, with small delicate hands in perfect condition?

2. Are you going you shoot birds in flight or your granddaughter's soccer game?

3. Have you been taking pictures (even with an old Instamatic) or does the term "full frame" remind you of a crime show?

4. Are you a successful enteprenuer/retire with two cars, two houses and a yacht, or are you a working class stiff/retiree living on $1500/month.

5. Do you want to shoot 5 or 5000 shots per year?

6. Do you want to lug around a 10 pound (give or take 5 pounds) oe do you want to slip your camera into your coat pocket?

7. Do you want your pictures NOW, or are you willing to sit (or walk) for hours until you find that perfect picture?

8. Do you have friends who share your ideas or just a spouse who can't understand why a soulmate would want to spend "all that money" on a whim?

9. Do you like fooling around gadgets, or fo you want a small camera a simpleton could use?

10. Do you have a local camera club full of people who have fun taking pictures, a camera club full of curmudgeons and snobs, or no club at all.

11. Will you commit, right now, to a year of learning and criticism, or will you get discouraged in 3 months?

12. Do you live in a location where you can conveniently get to a brick-and-mortar camera shop (Mom&Pop, chain, Best Buy, Costco, Sam's Club, Walmart or Frys) in a reasonably short time - or you willing to travel to a big city for a couple of days to "window shop" and try out cameras (pretending, regardless of your knowledge, to be clueless) - and then wait until you get feedback (and I mean honest, forthright, harsh, no-holds-barred feedback) on what you think you know?

13. Finally, ask yourself this, "Do I really want to take pictures, capture memories and capture beauty, or an I just bored?"

When you have answered these questions, we will be ready to discuss whether or not you want a real camera or a once-a-year toy. The next round of questions will get into camera generalities, but the question about Canon, Nikon, Sony, Olumpus, Panasonic, Samsung, Alpa, Toyo, Lomo, Dianne, Cosina, Leica or a hundred more brands is a long way off.

Got me here too, and I was predominantly an Olympus shooter at that time. Now I'm addicted to this site! :D

I have owned both, and seen little difference between them. Get whichever offers the features you want. The Nikon D3300, for example, has several features which the Canon T5i does not. If those features matter to you, get the Nikon. If those features do not matter to you, get the Canon. Learn to do your own research.

A Sony user died and went to Photographer's heaven. When he arrived he was being shown around by a guide. He came across a huge walled in area with big signs that read "Silence". He asked his guide, what was behind the walled in this area. His guide replied "Shhhhh, this is where we keep the Nikon or Cannon fans. They think they are the only ones up here.

Sony, Pentax, Sigma may not have the big name but, they make outstanding equipment. Like cntry, I'm a Sony shooter mainly because my last film body was a Minolta Maxxum 700i and I could use the same lenses. Handle as many bodies as you can before you make a decision. Be aware that B&H Photo Video offers free expedited shipping on purchases over $49.00. That usually means 2 days to me here in Columbus, OH. Probably not more than 3 days to anywhere in Texas. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/

That is just like asking, Ford or Chevy.

I'd say it's more like asking Mercedes or BMW.

That one is going up on my wall in BIG, BOLD letters.

I like the way Mogul put it. Everybody wanting to buy a camera should be roasted, grilled, raked over the coals, etc.

That ought to get you started.
And if you get a Cannon, go with the 155 Howitzer.

Which Nikon were you considering? D750? D810? D7100?
