Hi, Reddog,
Two well-captured B.I.F,s! Good job!

However, the second bird, identified as a peregrine, looks very much like a captive-bred peregrine X lanner hybrid or possibly a juvenile lander falcon. Since it is a trained bird flown in falconry ( note the end of the leather jess just above the base of the tail on its right side ) you should be able to check with the licensed falconer / owner about its parentage.

In general, it is considered appropriate (in fact, , honestly essential...) to identify animals that are photographed under captive or controlled, trained circumstances to differentiate them from the excellent images you have made of free-living wild individuals.

Keep up the good work.
I was really confused because you are speaking about a post from 2014. Those were taken at the L.A Zoo bird show! I don't ever recall saying they were wild but I attached some wild Raptors I took today! Sorry for the confusion, that was not my intention!
Best regards,
Dave

Carlos,
You mention that:
“Had to look those up, those were from October 2014 taken at the L.A. Zoo Bird show! I attached some wild hawks from Today at Peck Park”

As I recall these two images (which are of the same red-tailed hawk) were originally posted by you some time ago as two different Cooper’s hawks. https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-566175-1.html

Just a mix -up in image file dates, I’m sure.

Any comments on the background of this bird? This red-tail, to my eye , bears several features that call into question whether it truly was a wild hawk unaccustomed to human contact and handling.

Just a few points that arouse some curiosity....

I well understand that we who photograph a rich spectrum of wild, captive, and trained non-domestic species all can slip up occasionally and forget to include information pertinent to full appreciation and understanding of a posted image.

Best regards,
Dave

Dave just checked the files The Hawk in flight was taken on Nov28 at 8:30am and the Large Red Tail was taken Nov 26 at 8:12am this Month. the in flight photo are the same bird. These are wild birds taken at Peck Park in Arcadia calif. I think the bird I ID as a R ed tail might actually be the same Cooper I had shot earlier. I assumed it was the Red tail I had shot two days prior. I have only had this camera a few weeks, my previous camera was na 5DmkII. I don't know what else to tell you, you are free to think what you like. I took a few shots today but its raining here. The attached file was taken Today Nov 29 2018 at 1:07 pm Peck water conservation park Arcadia calif (Wild Hawk) Probably the same bird I shot before!

Canon 5d mark2 400mm 5.6L lens. As much as I love this camera it is not meant for sports or B.I.F. so I don't get as many keepers as I would like.

Hi, Reddog,

I was scanning through some older raptor BIF postings and came across these BIFs you posted. Good BIFs, but thought I ought mention that the falcon in image #2 is misidentified as a peregrine falcon and it is not a wild bird. The russet plumage on the nape of its neck identify it as an African lanner falcon (likely captive-bred) or a captive-bred lanner x peregrine hybrid. It was being flown by a falconer as indicated by the leather jesse (short leg strap) trailing along side the tail.

It is generally considered good form and only fair to mention when a pictured “wild” animal is actually a captive/trained individual photographed in a captive environment or under trained / controlled circumstances.

Good images, I especially like the bald eagle!

Regards,
Dave

Beautiful work That second one, with nothing but the bird and a gorgeous blue sky, is perfect for a poster
