SLR is Single Lens Reflex--35mm film camera.
DSLR is Digital Single Lens Reflex--a digital sensor instead of film.

The biggest difference is that you can take 100's of pix with DSLR without worrying about how much you will pay for film or developing. If you have worked in a darkroom, digital pix are easier and faster to modify where your wife can keep an eye on you

SLR (Single Lens Reflex) cameras go way back and use film only.
DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) cameras, as the "D" implies, are digital and capture images to a sensor and then transfers the images to a card for later processing.
It's that simple. first came SLR cameras. I bought my first SLR in 1968. Then came DSLR cameras. I bought my first DSLR in 2011.

I miss my darkroom.There was a certain kind of magic in souping the film, using the enlarger and placing paper in some smelly liquid and watching a picture appear. The room was small, dark,quiet and no one bothered me. The world was someplace else. No phone,cell phones? never heard of them. Computers? what was that? Flat screen TV? CD's? We had turntables. I even had a sign on the door. Please Keep Door Closed Or The Dark Will Leak Out. With the cost of chemistry,film and paper each shot was important. No such thing as "spray and pray". Yes in many ways digital is a great improvement, but I still miss my darkroom.

These days it is typical to see SLR used without the D since so few people use film, the ones that do will typically cite the camera model, or that they are shooting with film.

Having made a freezer for capturing high speed shots with the aid of flash.This was before digital was thought of. Check the routine,take the shot,develop the film, print the neg." aw shit" ,a failure.Compare a digital shot.Take the flash shot,download the shot on to the PC. "Aw shit" a failure hey ho ,who cares.
