Why do people add their vacation shots to someone elses site??? I thought the purpose was to coment on their posted work, not blow your own horn. If you want yours reviewed, start a new topic, don't hog someone elses.

When capturing an image containing the Ocean, what opinions are there whether the shutter should be slow to blur the waves (like a waterfall) or keep them more crispy?

Here's an example of crispy (more or less). Anyone out there have some with silky waves?

Funny but I was on the beach this morning, it was cloudy, no birds in sight so I took a few shots of rocks with waves @1/30 and 1/1000, all other settings were the same. You can get the effect you like.

Love the reflection on the water and especially on the sand as the water goes back out to the ocean! Very nice shot

I personally usually prefer my water crispy, especially ocean waves, though I have admired some silky waterfalls.

greymule When traveling with my wife, I have to take what I can get. Her dedication and patience aren't what mine are. My right ear is longer and stretched out from her pulling me away from waiting for "the shot".[/quote wrote:

Ha, that is my lament with my husband getting impatient. Sometime one should just go with another photographer, who understands waiting for the right moment.

I TOTALLY agree, you should go with another photographer, or go ALONE. That way no one has to wait on you! ;)

there is no one right way - its all about interpretation - mood - impression and what or how you as the artist wish to communicate to others the feel of the place.
