I guess the real question is ...
MOM do you want to see and enjoy your son's wedding as a mother? and as a mother should!
or do you want to want to be busy making sure you get all the shots of A wedding (even though it is YOUR SON"S)

Your son has NO experience of what it takes as a WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER
You as an adult still must make the decision for the child with NO experience in this matter. You should make the right decision for this IMPORTANT ENGAGEMENT. its really your call and if you pay for another pro to take the pictures your son really has no reason to be mad he didn't have to pay for it. and he got to spend some quality time with his mother during an important time in his life. which is more important Mother it is your decision

I am a wedding photographer I still use film and digital, my
recomendation for you is to google various websights
on wedding photos...get some ideas...wedding photography
can be tricky, especially getting everyone together for
the photo shoot, I use an assistant for this, myself, I work
with the bride and groom before the wedding, and then again afterwards, create the photo out of the love you
feel from your family.........a good photo will come from
within....BDK

[quote=dpullum]It is an interesting observation that once the sheep head in one direction that the rest follow the chant.

I fail to see that this is a case of the 'sheep head in one direction'. I think it's more like people with common sense are trying to help this woman who is clearly afraid to say no. It's a foolish idea even if she was comfortable shooting weddings which she's obviously not or she wouldn't be asking what to do.
This is another example of a topic of not too long ago where professional photographers were suffering because friends and, now, family members are doing the shooting to save money.

I have been asked to do the pics at my son's wedding in June. I am the family photographer and do some professional business on the side but have never done anything as extensive as a wedding and am scared to death about it. I really am learning as much as I can all the time but don't feel anywhere near equipped to do something "one shot" as a wedding. It's not like you get a do over.

I have told them maybe they should hire someone but they have assured me they really want me to do the pictures, it would be special to them etc.etc.

Now my question for those of you who have done weddings, what are the best and most important tips. Other than, "It's all about the dress". Please tell me there are some magic guidelines to follow so I don't make some disastrous mistake that will haunt me forever. After all it is my son's wedding. Help!
I have been asked to do the pics at my son's weddi... (show quote)

If your looking for a way out. Just charge them a lot of money.
They hire somebody else. I'll do it...
